I'm no offensive line expert, but I do know that D'Brick has drastically reduced his sacks allowed this season. I've seen him make some pretty good blocks in the running game this year and judging by how well this team is running the ball, I'd say he's doing at least a solid job in the running game.

But to be fair, I've only heard good things about Jake Long's play. I haven't really focused on him in any games.

I am a Jets fan so I would love to say Ferguson, but its a biased answer.

But I really don't know enough about Jake Long or even D'Brick to give a meaningful opinion on the topic so I can't vote in the poll.

I do know I haven't noticed D'Brick this year though, which is a great thing! I remember noticing Adrien Clarke and Anthony Clement numerous times last season.....

^ We've had very, very little success running to the left. Brick is okay if they pull him out on a screen or an outside run play, but he's awful at straight-ahead drive blocking. He gets very little leverage at the point of attack.

Without a doubt Jake Long will be stud fro the next 10-15 years.
D'Brick was, is and always will be overated.

Im gonna give it to Jake Long...since he's a rookie...
The good thing about DBrick is that he was the 4th overall pick, not first. But it did take him 3 yrs to get here. Long has been solid since the start. The only thing about him is that he's a first overall and is expensive (haven't checked salary figures but first overall would be more expensive than 4th).

So no one gets the edge. If I have salary space and the first overall and I know DBrick would be available at 4th with Long at first, I'll stay where Im at and draft Long. Don't have to wait 2 yrs to become probowl caliber LT.

I dont see much difference between 1st overall and 4th overall. Either way, a top 5 player in the draft is going to get paid... lol

For those curious about Jake's contract, Jake is the highest paid lineman in the league. Thank god he is earning that money instead of being a bust, lol!

But I didnt really intend on factoring in $$$ into the equation in this thread. I'm just talking about the players and their talents.

Assuming all else was equal, would you want to build around Jake or Brick?

Am I happy? What are you talking about?

And Pennington is making less money than PManning. Would that mean that we should take Pennington over PManning? I dont think so...

Tapp had 1.5 sacks Sunday. Did they come on DBrick?

I'm watching the highlights on ESPN now...

The sack w/ 3:06 left in the 4th, was let up by D-Brick (Tapp). Thats at least 3.5 sacks allowed for DBrick, 2.5 (really 1.5) for Jake...

    One did.

I'd take D'Brick. It's a matter of personal preference, because long term they're both going to be top players at their positions.

D'Brick just looked like a better player this year, though lately like the rest of the team he's individually been just OK Imo. He even improved significantly as a pass blocker this year, and for the most part teams have had trouble getting a sack or even pressure from the outside of the left. When guys go inside he's a little less dominant, but considering how much he's improved in 3 years he'll probably improve that too.

Long sounds like a good all around linemen though. I'm almost 90% sure he's being overrated here and over the long run his weaknesses will get exposed, but I'm not going to hate on the guy right now.

Both seemed to have played like top LT's this year. I know D'Brick has/did. Can't really talk in much detail about Long.

What makes you so sure people are overrating him? Just b/c they are saying he is better than D-Brick?

Since you admittingly havent seen much of Jake play this year, here is a quote from Suggs after he played us:

Also, here is a quote about his run blocking:
He also was voted 1st alternate to the Pro Bowl this year (and should have absolutely been voted as a Pro Bowler straight up. Both Jake and Clady got robbed. Jason Peters? WTF?!? :end rant: ).

Hes allowed 1.5 sacks this season (D-Brick 3.5 allowed), and the Fins have put him on an island from day 1, never stacking a TE on his side for help... and he has been a mauler in the ground game.

Hes faced and shut down top pass rushers such as Suggs and Mario Williams... as well as physically dominated stud 3-4 DEs in Seymour and Warren.

So, why is Jake Long overrated?

Right now, Jake Long. Long has a ways to go in his pass protection tho, as does Brick on his run protection.

That was what was said when he was drafted...

But hes been fantastic in pass protection this season. Chad has had plenty of time in the pocket, and Jake has only let up 1.5 sacks this season. Jake completely shut down Suggs and Mario.

The Texans played the first half w/ Mario on Jake, figuring to take advantage of the rookie. However, Jake completely shut down Mario, and made him a non-factor. They made a half time adjustment and moved Mario to the left side of the defense in the 2nd half... where Mario was able to get 2 sacks.

Jake has been extremely surprising in pass pro. Run blocking wasnt a surprise... we all knew that... but I expected him to struggle some in pass pro his rookie year. However, he's been phenomenal... and hasnt seemed to struggle at all.

His worst game of the season was Week 1 against you, lol... where he was a little shaky, giving up a few pressures and a couple of penalties. Since then, hes played at a Pro Bowl level...

    Re-read what I wrote:

Marcus McNeill....Joe Thomas...two LT's who blew people away in their first year...but the more you play the more people get a chance to find and exploit your weaknesses.

Long had a damn fine rookie season, but like any player he's going to have to make career adjustments. D'Brick has made his and IMO will do more as time goes forward. Long will have to do the same.

I chose D'Brick because I've seen him improve as a player as time moves forward. Plus he's a Jet. :)

Well, even if opponents begin to figure out Jake a little in pass pro like the 2 you listed, and he allows a couple more sacks... no one is going to "figure out" Jake in the run game. Hes one of, if not the best, run blocking LTs in the league... and that isnt going to change...

So if you factor in that dominance... his "fall from grace" if you will, during a sophomore slump will be a lot less than Tackles like Thomas and McNiel who were dominant pass blockers, but mediocre run blockers...

True, which is why he went #1 overall and was very worthy of it.

And yet hes not better than D-Brick in your opinion?

Or were you just favoring a Jet because of the fan factor (which I totally respect. Ronnie's the greatest RB in the history of RBs! )

I think it's got to be Brick right now.....he is a wall on pass plays when the other OLmen do their jobs....

Yeah he needs to get butter in the run game, but I think he's better then Long right now.

This is Brick best season so far for sure.

I love that quote by Suggs, Just like everyone here I haven't seen much from D'Brick. I'd like to watch more than the 3-4 Jets games I see a year on T.V or streaming if there isn't a game that's more important. I can say that overall the Jets fans I know are a little dissapointed, but then again Jets fans are almost never happy.

I do know that Jake has been Dominating. He's the best O-Lineman we've had since Richmond Webb. Sometimes I watch Matt Ryan and think about what could have been - that kid is going to rule the NFL one day, but Long has been everything we've hoped for so it's hard to be disappointed.
