"not like you are now writing the final chapter for MAngini... I would give him this week...

But now, what if he beats the Dolphins 42-3 and they don't make the playoffs? "Win or you're out... that should be the criteria... not that they make the playoffs... the team needs to play with desire this week, play with fire this week... to look like they can go forward with the program,..."

"I would say to him 'Eric, show me the team can respond to you.'"

If the Jets are elminated at 1pm by the Pats and then come up with a big game at 4pm then you definitely fire Mangini, because that potential performance has been in them since at least the New England win and if it stayed all bottled up for the last month when it mattered and only came out when it didn't it's another sign that he has not got the stuff to be a head coach.

I'm surprised we're seriously having this argument about Mangini at this point. He was handed a loaded team this year with some early issues expected because of Favre's late arrival and everything played out kind of as expected until the going got tough. Then the Jets just folded up and died.

It truly is amazing, isn't it?

It's almost like, you could have just about anybody coaching the team and still come up with the same number of wins, given how stacked and loaded the team was in September.

"Favre is taking much more of a back seat with this team... not leading. It's like he's saying, I want to be a part of the team wins but I don't want to take responsibility for how the team does. He;s taking too much of a passive role. I think the JEts themselves are probably disappointed in Favre's role here..."

Make it 2; he already has been visited by one all year on the team.

so what does "potential" superbowl calibur mean? Does it mean that there enough players that will grow into their potentil thusly making us a superbowl team? Or does it mean we have the talent now and a few things bounce our way, we can go to SB? Serious question.

my analysis is this. We have noone on our team that has the POTENTIAL to be a number one receiver.

We have noone on our team that has POTENTIAL to be a dominating LB. Like an Urlacher, Ray lewis etc.

We have noone on our tem tht has POTENTIAL to be a superbowl winning QB. Although we know the examples of game-managing qbs winning supoer bolws with the perfect storm around them, but you know what I mean.

We have one guy on the D-line who has POTENTIAL to be stud, which Jenkins was for most of the season.

And soone as I pointed out position by position in my last thread. Its not a superbowl team, and to postulate that "we're on our way" or we're "heading in the right direction" is a giant guess at best.

THE JETS CANNOT BE ELIMINATED AT 1PM. Amazing how many times the same thing needs to be repeated, amazing.

Thats the problem. All shouldnt be forgiven. They cant let something like a lucky playoff appearence and a playoff win cover up the problems on this team.

They cant rush the QB. Favre is to old. They cant cover slot WR's or TE's. They need to fix these problems and if Tannenbaum thinks Mangini can do it then fine but I would let him know that he has one year and its playoffs and by playoffs I mean deep playoff run or your done.

If he doesnt think Mangini is the answer then he has to fire him obviously.

All of Francesa's opinion's are biased. He likes Mangini and knows him personally and has stated it numerous times. Yes he's going to have to take shots at him or else it looks to obvious but Francesa is a biased in all his opinions.

Take a look at all his favorite teams. He only has ONE! The Yankees! The greatest franchise in sports! Why doesn't he commit to liking another team? Because he doesn't like rooting for anything but royalty. He likes to take shots at other teams while he sits back and laughs. He roots for his friends and the NY locals. He also roots for his buddy Bill Parcells when he coaches. He was the biggest Dallas fan when Bill was coach a few years ago. Now he hates Dallas and mocks them everyday and their fans. He always praises the Eagles because his friend is ANDY REID! When people talk about firing him he gets defensive.

Francesa is very knowledgable but his biased opinions are sometimes difficult to listen to. MANGINI should be fired unless the Jets miraculously make the playoffs. I don't care if they win and go 10-6 and miss it.

mangini was an defensive co. for all of one season before getting this head coaching job. i was never a fan and got verbally thrashed for not being on the genious bandwagon during his short mangenious period.

at the time, i remembered reading an article in pfw about how the patriots defensive unit had to have a meeting with their dc late in the season, because they weren't happy with his conservative defensive game plans, and felt they needed the team meeting to convince him to play a more aggressive scheme.

it seems he's has reverted back to his pussy conservative game plans and forgotten the team meeting that in the end, got the pats deep into the playoffs that year....

point being, he was never really ready to be a defensive coordinator at that time, never mind being a head coach.

firing mangini only brings us back to square one, and i don't have the confidence in woody to do any better with the next coaching decision. after all, i think woody took the genious because he would come cheap and thats what we'll get the next time with woody also... cheap cheap cheap cheap cheap cheap etc:

Maybe you should look into the 1978 Giants ticket-holders incident and rethink whether or not fans can compel ownership.
