And we never lose to Raiders, Broncos, 49ers and seagirls if Favre wasn't playing. He's old and he's done. He was great but pathetic this yr!
Therein lies the rub. Assuming everything plays out and Favre finally retires, the Jets will have one of the most piss-poor QB situations in the NFL going into next season. Kellen Clemens is the owner of one of the worst statistical seasons in NFL history and Brett Ratliff hasn't done anything in the regular season. Granted, I think Ratliff has far more talent than Clemens, but that's not saying much. The regime has a lot riding on Clemens developing into a respectable QB at some point. The FA QB class is beautiful- Warner, Boller, Losman, etc. are just fantastic options. The Jets are really sitting pretty.
Clemens is not the answer. If Favre retires, which is likely after this fiasco, the Jets need to play Ratliff and perhaps draft someone. Of course, the Jets might look to pick up someone's disgarded relic to play with the older FAs they picked up last year. That's the problem with Favre playing this year. The Jets have no idea what they have at QB. All they know is the Clemens sucked when given the chance to start.
I hate the dickless Chad haters worse than I hate Mangini and the Pats so I never admitted this before, but Chad does make the game boring to watch. He even makes MIA games boring. BF made the games more interesting, I give him credit for that. The trade was stupid, a 3-4 round pick for one year of an over the hill player with a ridiculous salary and the emotional stability of a teenage girl. But he was fun to watch thing and he is a cool guy. Worst part of the whole was that BF's Golden Boyness was no match for the Jets cursedness. BF got turned into a Jet, rather than the Jets getting turned into Bretts. That was the real tragedy of the season. : (
2 years ago w/ less talent we were 10-6, Chad took a 1-15 team and they have 10 wins w/ a week to play. We would at least be 11-4 right now w/ the div wrapped up if Chad was our QB.
Chad couldn't ven beat Clemens for the job. I'll give you the coaching and play calling sucked them just like they do now, but Chad was not the answer or he would not have been benched last season. Cutler, Flacco and Ryan were the answers.
Maybe the bigger question is was it worth spending 150 million dollars on the other free agents? Favre is a one year deal, the others we are stuck with for years. We were able to run the ball for a change but as usual we can't stop anything on defense. We started out pretty good against the run and then it all fell apart as usual. The results are still the same. 4-12 or 10-6 or 9-7. No playoffs so who cares?
I just wrote a pretty long message and the site failed to post it. Basically, fire CS. Favre is fine. He's not 28 anymore and the CS needs to fucking realize that. He cant air the ball out 65yds downfield, so stop calling the wheel. if you're going to call that play (the same one that gets underthrown/picked each week... sometimes twice per week.) at least change the 7 step drop to a 4 or 5 stepper and hit the receiver a more reachable 40yds downfield instead... fucking idiots. Dear Johnson Family, I am nasty at Madden, I will coach the Jets defense for $350k per year. Hire me. I have attached my resume for your review and look forward to taking the place of your incompetent defensive coaches. Clemens QB'd all 4 wins for last years team...and he didn't even QB 10 games last year. Not only that, but a couple drops against the Ravens and Skins cost us at least one more victory. He did this with injuries to his WRs, a shitty O-line, and a watered down running game. Do football fans smoke alot of weed? Peoples memories suck in this sport. If it happened more than a week ago, it becomes cliche'd, generalized talk because the details that make this game kick ass get thrown out. Another thing is that way too many people here think they have the answer...except the answer is almost always to do the opposite of what didn't work...which I'm sure the team would do if they were allowed to start over games when they mess up like in Madden. Clemens is the answer, but Ratliff just might be after his great 3 quarters in preseason? Why can't Clemens be the answer?
With it costing us 2nd round pick and absolutely nothing in return for Pennington; it was a horribble deal based upon the inevitable outcome of the year.
It doesnt matter because unless we fire Mangini and hire Holmgren, Mooch, or Cowher... Brett will be retiring in 2 weeks. a 3rd round pick means nothing to us. What really matters is that the talent we have (which is top 5 in the league) plays together as a team and stops playing sloppy football week in and week out... this can only be had by major changes being made to the coaching staff.
http://forums.theganggreen.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=1072863 Lets not kid ourselves here...top 5 talent as a team isn't us...the Chargers, Pats, Giants, Cowboys, Steelers, Indy...and you can easily argue teams like Arizona, Carolina, Tenn....have more raw talent AND they've all been together longer as a team. We have a very talented '08 roster...but let's not go overboard here...though I realize asking a Jets fan to not go overboard is like asking the emo kid to not cut himself for attention.
That would have been a TD? How would he have fallen into the EZ from the 30-40 yd line? and the defender made a nice play. His hand was in there. If Favre would have thrown more balls like that all game we wouldn't have been in that situation.
To the premise of this thread, I think having Farve here was beneficial to both Ratliff and Clemens. Hopefully, they got to be around a HOF Qb and actually learn things like how to deal with fame and adversity. How to overcome obstacles and most importantly, how to play to win. Farve's biggest contribution to the Jets won't be quantified on the field just yet, but if either of our young QB's develops into something special, you can thank Farve for it.
