This just means that the Yankees had their eyes on Manny all along. Hopefully they can keep the years down. I honestly don't know how I'll be able to root for the guy...I guess it will fade when he blasts the sox. IDK
How did you root for Damon? Easy, he put on a suit of white with navy blue pinstripes. How about Giambi? Hell, I despised him more than any other player in the sport before he became a Yankee. But then he joined us and all was forgiven. Hell, how about Roger Clemens? If any former Sox were ever hated, it was him. You'll feel a lot better when ARod is seeing fastballs in the strike zone thanks to Manny.
Clemens was a few years removed from the Sox and we weren't good most of his time in Boston so it was different. Damon was strange and Manny wouldbe too but knowing Manny always wanted to be a Yankee and how he'd want to stick it to Boston AND how maybe he can rub off on that big choker we have I'd be all for Manny.
They say if they did Damon would go back to Center and Ramirez would play left. Matsui would still DH. Not sure I agree but that's what I read. Mayve the reason is that Manny would fall asleep in the club house or wander out of the stadium if he wasn't in the field.
Haha, never let a chance to rip ARod get by, huh? I despised Clemens up until he came here. He still played for Toronto. And once a Red Sock, always a Red Sock to me. Until they become a Yankee of course. And I forgot probably the most infamous case since Ruth: Boggs! I loathed Boggs for sitting out the final day of the season when Mattingly was in the race with him for the batting title. I didn't forgive him until he became a Yankee, and even then, it was tough to accept him.
Let me be the first to re-coin the phrase before you read it on the back of the Post. Return of the Bronx Zoo
Like I said, defensively that's a pretty big dropoff, but offensively, that's a pretty sick lineup. Damon CF Jeter SS ARod 3B Manny LF Matsui DH Posada C Cano 2B Nady RF Swisher 1B
Don't forget to throw Molina in there every 5th. Posada isn't catching every game. Haven't really read any reports on him, though I doubt he will have close to the production he had going into his FA year.
or The Bronx Zoo Reopening. or The Bronx Zoo Open in the Winter. or New Stadium Same History But yeah, it's unimaginable, too easy and of course newspapers will use it.
Boggs was different b/c I wanted to win so badly, at that point I had never seen a Championship. We didn't need Clemens, we just had the best team in the last 30 years in 1998 and we didn't need Clemens. If we ever got pedro I don't think I could ever root for him but as much as I hate the Sox there are a few decent guys that I could root for if they didn't wear those ugly uniforms they have now.
Why? Why would ANY above average player willingly go to Washington? They have shown ZERO commitment to winning. They're offering all this for Teixeira, but if they don't get him you know they aren't going to spend any of it on second tier guys that would help them a lot. They're going to pout about how it isn't fair that the big market teams get everyone while pocketing the $20+ million a year that could be used to bring in a pitcher and a decent bat.
Latest on Teixeira: http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2008/12/gm_sox_in_lead.html
That seems a little ridiculous. This guy thinks they are in the lead but doesn't know who is bidding against them...lol. I swear every unnamed source of every quote for the last few days has been planted by Boras. I would wonder if the same pressure isn't on Teixiera that was on Sabathia from the union to take the highest offer. It would be unbelievable if it isn't.
It's a GM from either the Orioles, Angels, Nationals, or Yankees. So while it is technically an "unnamed" source, it's really a little more than that. When he says he doesn't know who is bidding against them he means he doesn't think anyone is still close, not that he doesn't know what teams are involved.
I didn't read the link. Does it say it's a GM from one of those four teams? I doubt it's the Yankees because they seem to have no interest in Teixiera at all based on all the other "unnamed sources". Maybe Baltimore because it seems they won't budge from 7 years.
lol..oh yeah. One of the five teams. Thing about that is I don't believe there are five teams involved. Olney says flat out that the Yankees haven't made an offer at all. Of course I'm not sure how he knows that.
They could be talking, which is exactly what any good GM would do, talk to a player of his caliber, if they intend on signing him or not.
the biggest and by far most intriguing question of this offseason: How many mock lineups will Alio post in this thread?
