Nicely done, and well deserved. I was in the gym and I saw that Joe fucking Thomas and Jason fucking Peters made it over D'Brick and I almost fell off the treadmill. Fucking...those two blew chunks this year...especially Thomas. D'Brick was one of the better LT's in the NFL this year...but w/e. He's got time to make some more.
the way i see it, the biggest reason for jones' breakthrough season is the fact that teams have to be wary of the passing game - which was a complete non-factor last season. i have no problems with hall of famers making it in based on reputation, anyway. favre has earned the right to make the probowl every year he's in the league and healthy. the same probably goes for a few other guys, like derrick brooks, ed reed, kevin mawae and peyton manning.
Good deal, but I noticed once again, no Rhodes. Oh well. Hollywood, will have something to work for next year.
I vehemenently disagree with this in principle. We have very different outlooks on what the pro-bowl is supposed to be. To me, the pro-bowl selection is supposed to be a reward for a player who performed as one of the 2 best players at his position, in his conference, FOR THAT SEASON. I think it's absurd to say that so and so a player "has earned the right to go every year because of what he has accomplished in the past". Not only is it just wrong but it's totally impractical. THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE SAYING: If everyone thought the way you apparently do, EVERY YEAR there would be young players who totally outperform older, more accomplished players, who are unjustly left out of the pro-bowl. And for players like Favre who have tremendous longevity (or Derrick Brooks, or Kevin Mawae, or any other similar kind of player), they would automatically occupy a pro-bowl spot for the greater part of their careers, and over time, there would be countless examples of younger players being cheated out of the pro-bowl. No offense but what you are saying is not only obviously unfair, it's illogical and not close to being pragmatic. I'd like to add that, using the philosophy you use, there would actually be NO POINT in having a pro-bowl for each individual season.
I would say we have 7 players as a result of our games actually getting some air-time(from the Favre effect). I live in MD and usually get 1 non-Primetime Jets game, this year, it's been 4, if not more. If people get to watch your team, they will see that you have good players, hence some respect.
By the way, I was actually thinking of starting a thread this morning about this but I got sidetracked . . . but ANYWAY, does anyone else agree with me that it is an ABSOLUTE JOKE that they don't wait until the END OF THE REGULAR SEASON to decide which players get to go to the pro-bowl????? I mean pro-bowl voting actually starts like at the midway poin of the season. That's just fucking ridiculously illogical. (I totally understand and accept why they don't, and really can't, wait until the end of the playoffs)
I agree completely with you, but considering how quickly fans decide who sucks and who doesn't it's for the best. It's not like the Pro Bowl means much anyway. Walter Jones is starting again for the NFC, despite the fact that Sam Baker, Diehl, and Jammal Brown have all played better than him. It's like the Gold Glove award in baseball, except the guys get a free trip to Hawaii out of it.
Two reasons he may: 1. First time ever on the AFC side of things. 2. If he plans to call it quits after this season, why not? Could be his last chance to play football. oh, and technically this could matter too: 3. He's not the starter. Really, that just means he only really goes in the game if he wants. Could be fun. He will have alot of teammates there with him too, so if he plans to come back, he could also go because it's a nice experience with the fellas around. Mostly, I think he'll go because he has never been on the afc side.
The whole thing is a joke. Pro Bowl voting was one of the biggest reasons it took Art Monk a few extra years before he was enshrined in the Hall of Fame. A few seasons in which he was not voted to the Pro Bowl, he came up big in December after the voting for the Pro Bowl had been completed. After 16 games Monk had better numbers than other Pro Bowl receivers and he overtook them stats-wise during December games. (# of Pro Bowl appearances isn't the only reason why it took Monk a few extra years, but his low # of appearances in the game was certainly a factor in the eyes of HOF voters.)
It was only a matter of time to see Mangold and Revis in the Pro Bowl. Congrats to all the JETS who made it to the pro bowl. Now go out there and play like it for the rest of the season and bring the Lombardi Trophey back home. :jets:
Right, which is way I disagree with the way they do it and why I disagree with you defending how they do it (it makes it meaningless). But, at least we agree on that
While I am not sure I would have put Rivers in over Favre, as he is leading his team to nowhere, I think I would have probably put Pennington if anyone. (And again if he doesn't make the post-season, hell no as well, but I voted for him at the time) Favre is in on the M.J. principle. He's at a point in his career where he is a legend, and every year could be his last. Did M.J. deserve his last all-star game? No, but you give it out of respect.
As much as I love Favre, I would agree that Rivers deserved it more. They really should wait until at least week 16. I would prefer to make the votes right before the Superbowl and for players, coaches, analysts, etc. to all have a vote, much like the MVP vote - Not the stupid fans. Who knows, maybe Favre will come through in the next 2-5 games and will be worthy of the selection and Rivers will totally stink it up. A true Pro Bowler delivers when it matters, when the pressure's on, late season, and into the playoffs.
