here's your "reality check"...Marty Schottenheimer got smoked after a 14-2 season.....so the 8-5 record means jack shit, IMO
Whoa? That is a weird comment. He's had the Steelers a constant playoff team... the shoulda coulda woulda of the Bettis fumble is ridiculous. How many times does Bettis fumble there?.. . 1 out of 100? How does that fumble have any reflection on Cowers abilities to coach?
yeah and lets see how that worked out for them. They hired a lifetime offensive coordinator as thier headcoach, and now are 5-8, and thinking about firing him, who knows what would have happened if they didn't.
i know it worked out horribly for San Diego....but the point i was trying to make was that it doesn't matter how good your record is...your job is never safe. You were saying because our record is 8-5...the assumption was that Mangini's job was safe...i don't think it is. Hell....Dick Jauron signed an extension after week 5.....and Ralph Wilson jr told the press "no comment"...when asked about Jauron's job security this past Sunday.....according to Chris Mortensen..that's the kiss of death.
Stupidest move ever firing Schottenheimer. yeah maybe they didnt beat the Patriots, but god damnit all they canned him anyways, simply because the chargers players failed to make plays in the playoffs. Then the following year, they made those plays, made the AFC title game. now they suck, only can wonder why... oh wait thats right he was the worst coach in RAIDERS history. Why the hell would you fire Schottenheimer for Turner?
First of all, I personally think it's ridiculous to be talking about replacing Mangini . . . EVEN IF WE MISS THE PLAYOFFS. I know most of you would probably disagree with me but I have always believed that NFL teams (and sports teams in general) are far too impatient with coaches. If the Titans were ever as impatient as people want the Jets to be in this case, Jeff Fisher would have been fired MULTIPLE times throughout his lengthy tenure as Head coach in Tennessee. I believe in letting a coach (especially a young coach) grow with the front office for 5 or 6 seasons. I think a lot of coaches just need a few years to get a handle on the job and what it takes to lead NFL teams to victory. A classic example of this is none other than Bellicheat. He was widely considered to be a mediocre head coach during his first stint in Cleveland. EVERYBODY said that he was a defensive genius who was made to be a lifelong defensive coordinator in the NFL. After four seasons, Cleveland got impatient with him (he had compiled a 36-44 record with only one playoff appearance - Interestingly enough, this would be very similar to Mangini's first few years as coach if we fired him after this season, except that Mangini's record would be closer to .500) and let him go. We all know how well he did when he got another shot . . . Secondly, I HATE that this 'story' (sounds like baseless speculation to me - especially when you consider that the crypt-keeper is the source) has been gotten as much play as it has gotten. I think it can only serve as a distraction to Mangini and his staff. I also think it's amazingly UNFAIR to Mangini. (I realize that this happens all the time and that coaches are expected to deal with this sort of stuff . . It just really bothers me because I believe that this is meanginless speculation that does nothing positive for our team. I really think the sports media should be held to a higher standard when it comes to their 'reporting') sorry, I didn't mean to post this twice. I was trying to copy and paste something else in here. LOL.
Cowher had a team that was almost always a superbowl contender. I don't give a shit how long it took for him to actually win it. How many years did it take Peyton Manning to win a superbowl? Would you pass on him too? When he got a real QB he finally won it. He's a proven, superbowl champion coach who is still young and just happens to be a 3-4 guy. He's absolutely the best available guy if we do change coaches.
that's the problem...woody is stupid. but in this case...Woody's stupidity could save this franchise further pain...if he cleans house
i dont see anything he's done that is really that stupid, the only thing i see him being is stubborn to fire someone, and in this case it could work out as a positive
how long have you been a Jets fan? Until this year...Woody has been a pocket pincher when it came to spending money....the only reason why he blew his load this year is because he needs to sell PSLs.
People cant really say that anymore after last offseason. Either way, i really think it would be a mistake if we fired Mangini
you could be right...and we really can't judge Mangini till the regular season plays itself out anyways. If the Jets collapse...after all that money was spent to bring in the new talent in the offseason...i think changes should be made...not necessarily Mangini...but i believe both his coordinators need to be terminated. Having said that....if Mangini DOES take the fall...i wouldn't shed a tear over it. I think he's in way over his head....much like the other Belichick disciples turned out to be (Weis at ND, and Crennel in Cle) in their HC positions. I'm sure Mangini is a great coordinator...but i'm still on the fence when it comes to Mangini's status as a HC. Just my opinion.
If we miss the playoffs, Mangini should go and Sutton should be gone regardless. But Cowher would be a great replacement. I can't think of a better name out there.
