Here's the bottom line junc. The Jets didn't want Pennington. They couldn't wait to get him out of town. I am sure they don't want Clemens either and he will be gone next year so all of your talk about him is meaningless unless you also talk about the putrid FO this team has as well.
We got Favre for a few reasons. -Chad's durability concerns -PR The biggest reason we got Favre was to sell jerseys and soften the PSL blow. Fvare was tossed in a very difficult spot a month before the season. I would have been fine w/ the Favre trade in February or March but throwing him to the wolves a month before the season killed our early season where we lost a few winnable games and now he has hit a wall. Remember this guy had no real offseason conditioning, staying in shape and football shape are 2 very different things. It wasn't a smart move as of now. If he gets a 2nd wind and we hold on to win the division and win in January then it will have been worth but it's already worth it to the Jets b/c the move was made for PR purposes and they got what they wanted even if they watch Chad lead a 1-15 team to a div title over us.
Where is this big talent discrepency you keep talking about? The Dolphins have a much better D than the Jets do. The Jets D with all the additions isn't one bit better than it was last year. We rank the same in PTS per game and Yardage against the league. We essentially traded a D that is better against the run for one that outright stinks against the pass. There isn't a GM in the league who wouldn't trade Thomas Jones for Ronnie Brown in spite of the big time Stats. The Dolphins didn't have a 1st round pick that is a complete bust either. The Big difference in talent between our two teams is the Dolphins have better running backs a WR who actually stretches the field, a better D, much better coaching and the Jets have the edge in possesion recievers and OL and QB. The Jets averaged 16.75 Pts per game last year on O and gave up 27.3 Pts per game last year and had 4 wins. We stunk. This year the O is scoring almost 10 points more per game and the D is letting up 5 points less per game but hasn't changed it's rank in the NFL on points given up one bit. from last year. The Dolphins moved up from 30th offensively last year to 23rd Offensively this year in points scored. The moved from 30th in points allowed to 9th in points given up this year. The Jets moved from 25th in scoring last year to 5th in scoring this year and on D they are still ranked 19th in giving up points exactly where we were a year ago. It is our O which is the reason we have gone from 4 wins to 8 so far and Miami has done it primarily on D. We are outscoring Miami by a considerable margin per game and giveing up more points at a considerable margin. The Dolphins are averaging less than 4 points more a game this year over last year and the D is letting up more than a TD less this year. The fact is both the Jets and Dolphins sucked last year both upgraded dramatically at QB, both upgraded on D and O and the Dolphins have made the upgrades on D count the Jets have not.
The only comparable weapons on O for Chad are at RB and our 2 RBs have played better than his 2 RBs. Chad would kill to have our WR corps, our TE to throw to and our OL. Defensively we have more talent, we aren't playing like it but Miami's O is also efficient and not turning it over unlike our O. The O is not scoring almost 10 PPg more this year, our OFFENSE is scoring 23 points per game. You don't count those D and STs points which we have 35, Miami only has 9 D/STs points I believe and our O has given up 35 points where I think Miami has given up 7. last year Miami was -7 in TO ratio, this year they are +12. Why is that? They have a QB who takes care of the football and doesn't constantly put their D in bad spots. That is a +19 difference from a year ago, you don't think that helps their D? Last year we were -4, this year 0. That's not much of a difference hence our D's #s aren't that much different although up until the NE game our D played alot better than the #s indicated. We are outscoring Miami by 3 pts a game on O and if you factor in the points allowed by the O it's only about a point per game despite having the much better weaons and much better STs to set up our O in good FP.
The special teams has been good lately they sucked early in the year, almost cost us the Miami game and did cost us the first NE game. Maybe Miami has more INT's and Fumble recoveries this year on a per game basis and we have less on a per game basis than last year? Miami's up 22% from last year we are down from last year. Our Defensive secondary is arguably the worst in the league right now. Granted Pennington's been very careful with the ball which is a trademark of Parcells management and that clearly helps the turnover ratio. When Chad was under Mangini that was not the case. While you put that all on Chad, I put it on scheme and style. Keller was a none factor early in the year he has just started making his presence felt the last 5 weeks. Coles got concussion number how many mid way through this year and is clearly a shadow of his former self and no longer needs to be doubled which is why Cotch is disapearing.
Junc, there's no way you can even compare the two. The Miami running game has more TDs than Chad and so does Favre. You have a guy that's handing the ball off and managing the game but isn't really producing all that many points. So what exactly is your point? You can rattle off all the names and stats you want, but when it comes down to it, points on the board are all that matter.
Our STs have been good since about week 4 so that's most of the season. Our K was hurt in week 1 which hurt our FP but all we needeed was a 1st down or 2 to cement that agme away and our O couldn't do it. Our TO ration was better w/ Chad under Herm than under Mangini. We were +18 in 2004. Coles at 50% is still better than any WR the dolphins have. Keller came on in the KC game and in his last 7 games he has averaged 5 recs a game. Cotch last year w/ Coles out was excellent w/ a hurt Chad and Clemens so explain to me how he has disappeared while Coles is still playing(along w/ Keller and our better #3 WRs) playing w/ the great Brett Favre?
Who cares if it has more TDs? Chad is setting up these TDs. Ricky: 3 TDs 5 3 yds 51 Ronnie: 10 TDs 1 yd 2 15 5 62 5 6 2 16 3 9 of Ricky/Ronnie's 13 rush TDs are from 6 yards or closer(69%). Thomas Jones 12 TDs 6 7 1 1 7 13 2 6 1 59 29 17 Leon 4 TDs 11 60 61 4 7 of Jones/Leon's 16 rush TDs were 6 yds or closer(43%) The point is w/ all the extra weapons we have and w/ the better FP from STs we only score 3 more per game and when you factor in points allowed by the O it's even closer than that. Pathetic would be the poster that criticizes but cannot respond w/ an argument to help his case.
The Great Brett Favre is an old over the hill player. Still better than mediocre Chad. I'm not one who thinks Favre was the greatest when he was in his prime. He is far from his prime now as is Chad. Truth is both the Jets and Dolphins are mediocre as are their QB's. Favre is still the better QB today.
Can someone tell me what the point is of all this Chad Love right now? What is the point? If you love the smooth talking loser, then go and become the fish fan you really want to be. He ain't coming back. He's not our qb now. So, exactly... What is the point?
He is? Why are most of our rush TDs longer? You can say he is better all you want but that hasn't been the case this year.
What person right now has the guts to say they would rather have Chad over Farve if it comes down to the last game of the year in the Meadowlands with the wind whipping and the division and the playoffs on the line? Pennington over Farve in one game that matters for all the marbles!
I do. The last time they matched up in week 17 for a div title for the Jets and a #1 seed for GB Chad badly outplayed Favre. The last time they matched up in bad weather in '06 Chad badly outplayed Favre. I HOPE we win these next 2 and I HOPE Brett brings his A game against Miami b/c we are going to need it.
Junc I was talking about the Dolphins w/out Chad are 5-8 or 6-7 ,not the Jets. Unless you think Henne is the 2nd coming?
So what all of our rushing TDs were 99 yards? That's what you're saying if you take Brett out of the equation with that vague point. I can say he's better, and I'd be willing to bet the farm that any team out there would pick Favre over Pennington in a heartbeat, which pretty much negates this conversation. I'd have to say that speaks far more than you and I combined could say.
I bet the dolphins wouldn't take Favre over Pennington and based off what has transpired I bet if just thinking about on the field the Jets wouldn't take Favre either. The Jets love Favre for all the wrong reasons.
