In all my years of watching football and thats over 40 I have never seen a head coach not move from that arm folding position. Please this man is clueless. Have some emotion! This man is the complete opposite of coaches like the Great Lombardi,Parcells,Cowler,Shanahan, and Chucky down in Tampa bay when it comes to passion. Where are his adjustments at halftime or he leaves that toward his coordinators who either are brainless or are puppets and have to take orders from MANSHITTY and don't disrupt the initial game plan. Look at the 49ers right now. Can you see what a fiery coach can do! They should of beat Arizona and they will do the jets a favor by beating MIAMI. We need a new coach now and I think Cowler or the Giants Defensive coordinator will be a great fit. Can you see the Giants running the Jets defensive game plan! I don't think so. Get rid of the 3 4 defense and bring back the new sack exchange!
There are coaches that when in the heat of a game will jump around, shout, yell, and even throw tantrums on the sideline. If I were a coach I would probably be more of this kind of coach myself because I tend to get fired up about games and all. But there are just as many calm, laid back coaches that chew their gum, or the cud, or whatever and let the game unfold as it does. It doesn't make them bad coaches. You, me, and every other person watching the tube has no idea what happens when the doors are closed and the cameras are off. You don't know if their are butt chewings, or outright preaching about how they are playing, or if they just cruise along. Just because you don't see passion, or something happening doesn't mean it isn't. As for Cowher... don't get your hopes up. I hear he's happy with his new job. And as for switching schemes, I'm going to be happy with the one we have seeing as we have already loaded it up 3-4 guys. You can't keep switching the damn Off/Def schemes every other year and expect to recruit and groom the talent you need to compete. People are losing their shit because we crapped out of a couple of games. Remember at the beginning of the year when we were supposed to be happy if we were above .500?? Let's see how it ends before we leap off our 23rd story ledges, kk??
^People are not getting annoyed because the team lost a couple of games. They are annoyed because the team is following a 40 year pattern. Are Giant fans freaking out because they lost to Philly? No. Why? Because they are the Super Bowl champions and are 11 and 2. Its not the losses that kill us directly - its the repeating heart breaking pattern that goes on year after year. And hiring bargin basement coaches doesn't bode well for breaking the pattern.
The Jets had an emotional coach in Herm Edwards, it seems like everyone (especially the owner and people on this message board) got very tired of his act and wanted him gone. Mangini was supposed to be the anti-Herm, and that was enough for The People... Anyhow if you watch Mangini's press conferences, he describes a lot of what the team and coaching staff do, both before and after a game. Ninety-nine percent of what a coach does should take place during the week and not the game. However, I have to go with everyone in this thread who noticed that Mangini should do something during the game. Anything.
I think you are making a bit much of this and the 40 year history. We have had some ups and downs, but overall since Parcells took over this team we have had more to hope and cheer for on a more regular basis. I do get it... it sucks to get beat by losing teams when you appear to have all the talent you should need to win. People want to blame someone for their misery. Shit happens though. There are no guarantees on Sunday.
Actually, that's not true at all because your entire point is impossible. What nobody cared about was to admit they could see what was happening. You are a perfect example.
Don, what you need is one of those cartoony avatars like Bosko has for himself. That way we can help keep your posts in context visually.
Linebackers are the key to the 3 4 defense. You have to have linebackers that could do all three phases which are blitzing, stopping the run and going back into coverage. The Jets do not have this. David Harris is a great run stopper but lacks in the other 2. Calvin Pace is a blitzing linebacker but lacks in coverage as does Thomas and Bowen who were both DE in college. Barton is a smallish mlb who is average in coverage and blitzing. This is why TE and BACKS out of the backfield kill us. I am saying unless you get 4 quality linebackers the 3 4 will not work. Think of Parcells Giants and Belchiks Patriots and look who they had at LB. Also I've been a draft nut for 40 years and can tell you I would of never drafted Ghoulston to be a linebacker. He is a DE and thats it. He has the physical atributes of John Abraham but lacks in desire. If you seen any Ohio st. games last you saw he took off on some plays. Thats why learning the LB position for him is crazy just look how Kiwaunka of the Giants looked last year before he was hurt.
does someone take belichecks tapes and look at a camera of him the whole game? how would someone know if he NEVER coaches his players or NEVER talks to other coordinators just because the 2 mins the cameras on him a game hes not
Does He Actually Coach? I assist in Youth football and help my son for instance go through his progressions on defense. If its "Fire" and he's at linebacker then the play to his side he shoots in , to the opposite side he trails and follows the ball. I can teach that to dog. What actual coaching does Mangini do? From what knowledge does he draw from?
I think the 49ers are going to have to think very seriously of giving their head-coaching job, full time, to Mike Singletary. The 49er defense hasn't let the Bills and Jets breathe in the last eight quarters, and the units on both sides of the ball are playing very hard for a team that's out of the playoff race. That's a head coach's job -- getting his team to play hard at all times. peter king on si.com after watching singletary's defense throttle the jets and bills, as well as rex ryan's defense in baltimore and spagnola and jimmy johnson in philly, i am convinced that mangini and sutton have no clue. he may have spent time with belichek, but he learned nothing. it is obvious that the pats exposed the jets defense against the pass, and both shanahan and martz went to school on that game. the titans do not have the receivers to do that. unless our defense stops playing passive, we are not going to make the playoffs.
