You have to respect the integrity of someone who can man up like that. Does this mean he played a good game? No. But it's very very rare to find a professional athlete willing to step forward and say "Me. I'm the one that messed up."
Good article. Jenkins has been MVP in my book for the season and the comments he made and expectations for his play just raised my admiration towards the guy. Another good note, we might've found our slot corner. Good to hear Lowery is tearing it up in practice. If there's any indication from the practice and the comments made by the big man...I'd have to believe San Fran is about to receive a defensive ass whoopin come Sunday. Let's get it done.
Mangini, evisioning goodness knows what: “You had your Wham shirt, Flock of Seagulls. I’m trying to think of what was big in 89. Salt-n-Pepa. There was no My Space, so we’re out of that.” Not sure I'm feeling the wham shirt...
I love the fact that Jenkins stepped up and said is was on him, but the truth is, it was on everybody. I'm not going to say it's presumptuous of Jenkins to assume that "as goes Kris Jenkins, so goes the NY Jets," but, as admittedly indispensable as he is, the rest of the team took the day off and couldn't afford to. In other words, let's assume Jenkins has a kick-ass day against, say, the Dolphins. And we lose 34-13. He really busts his ass and we come up woefully short. Then what? Now what's the story? Whatever... I like that he came out and proclaimed this... it's probably a good thing in terms of locker room motivation. "Geez, Jenkins is down on himself and blames himself (solely) for our loss against Denver, but I know deep down inside that I too basically sucked last Sunday." Okay. That's a good thing. Could be a motivator. Now we've got to have that get us through the next four games. If it does, I've got no problem with it whatsoever.
Jenkins is the man. Watch him shut down Frank Gore next week! And Harris is back..can't get any better than that
There likely is no story because the players would all be packing their lockers. I really think that is a must win game. We'll see.
Pace and Jenkins are both leaders. When asked about the team, they say they should have done more, though I'd read more into Pace's response to a question about his sacks (how he hadn't had any in a while), to which he responded that he is mostly in coverage now and that you can't get sacks if you aren't rushing.
Okay, yes, but I'm just using it as an example. I'm saying no singular man is responsible for Sunday's loss, no matter if he's Kris Jenkins. Sunday's loss was a combination of SOOOO many things gone wrong, it's almost impossible to get into it in one post. The loss to Denver was a TEAM LOSS, which is probably good in terms of motivation, as crazy as that sounds. Everybody owns that loss, and maybe more guys in the locker room need to step up and say, "No Kris. I screwed up too."
For anyone watching the game we can see that nearly every single player had problems, especially on defense where the tackling was atrocious. Someone has to be first. That person is a leader. Sounds like Kris is a leader on the defense in good times and bad. I want to have people like that around me.
Can you imagine if the Jets drop the ball Sunday? This place is going to be hell... Tony, get another one of those threads going!!
That is exactly what a good leader does. That's why I have such faith in this team. Jenkins always seems to know exactly what to say no matter the situation. I remember when Peyton Manning used to always blame everyone else. And then it would not surprise me when he'd lose. Then something happened, he suddenly started to blame himself when things went wrong, and started crediting the rest of the team for wins. Not surprisingly to me, he went and won the SB that year. You need at least 1 guy on your team that is like that, because everyone else will then follow that lead. We got that in Jenkins. Not saying we'll win the SB, but we could. Without Jenkins, we'd have no shot though.
