It?s hard to find anything about the Jets that everyone on this board seems to agree on, but if there is one point that appears to come the closest to being a unanimous sentiment, it?s that our defensive playcalling pretty much sucks.

This makes me wonder whether the team will address this issue in the offseason (I really, really hope they do). So for everyone out there who wishes that we could get some consistently quality playcalling on the defensive side, here?s a two part question for you (and I ask this not with any particular answers in mind but only because I?m curious as to what the possibilities might be):

A)How likely is it that the Jets will make a change at D Coordinator for next season?

B)Who would be your choice (and realistically available to take the job)?

They tried to get rid of him last offseason. I don't want him back next year, and I wouldn't be shocked if Mangini wants a friend who is a DC and isn't afraid to tee off on a QB.

    Rob Ryan
    Romeo Crennel
    A Dick LaBeau disciple
    A Rex Ryan disciple
    I'll take Mike Nolan too
Wade Phillips - he had a great Chargers Defense, why not do it here.
There may be some position coaches who know the X and O's too.
I'd like to apply for the position as well. I know that cutting the head off the offensive monster is more effective than tricking it trip over itself.

Coaching regimes are a group of coaches who have worked together at one time in their careers. Its rare for someone to be brought in that they don't know.

So it comes down to who Mangini has worked with.

    A) Not likely unless Mangini's butt-buddy Rob Ryan comes free at some point in the offseason

    B) Keith Butler, LBs coach of the Steelers

I don't think Crenell would come back right away as a DC, but that would be a good choice, I would love to have Mike Nolan he would be my number 1 target. I don't think i wan't an Oakland guy although he has done good, I am just too worried about the stench of all Davis coming with him like a curse

He'll work. His background is good too.

Mangini won't fire Sutton so it doesn't matter. If he was going to do that he would have after year 1 or year 2. The only way to get rid of those clowns is to get rid of Mangini too.

Crennel was one person i had thought of during the season. His ass is def on the hot seat in Cleveland but now with Anderson going down he sort of has a built in excuse.

Maybe he can bring Rogers over with him and we can switch to a 4-3 (JOKE)

Keith Butler looks like a good idea to me; linebackers are the heart and soul of any good 3-4 (Of course, the guardian of 3-4 is the NT...)

It's wishful thinking, Butler is probably too tight with Mike Tomlin from their college coaching days to split right now. I guess it depends on the outcome of this season. I still think Mangini's hard-on for Ryan will predicate if and when we fire Sutton.

Keith Butler would be the most beneficial choice in my opinion. He's running a 3-4 in Pitt now and that's the same sort of scheme and aggressiveness I'd like to see here. Nolan would be high on my list as well, in terms of realistic choices.

I definitely think that Sutton and his softie schemes need to get the boot though. There's too much talent on this defense to not be able to consistently pressure the passer.

Marvis Lewis should be added to the list. The defense would love him as the DC and play hard for him. He needs to get back to his Baltimore days, we can help.

He has absolutely 0 chance of surviving. None. Nada. Not even if they win out and they won't.

I entirely forgot about Lewis. I'd hope if he gets the can that at the very least we take a look at him.

I think Crennel would be great--I hope he becomes available. I think he will take the DC job if he has no NFL HC offers.

understood. His cupcake TCs aren't my thing either, but if he's just dialing up the defenses there is no harm done.

I would take Rex Ryan in a heartbeat, but he wont be coming free from B-more unless its to be the next Lions head coach.... Also I want no part of Rob ryan. He has been absolutely awful in Oakland. Yes I know its Oakland, but still he has been awful, been there for several years now, and just flat out has done nothing to impress me with his defenses.

I would rather we scoop up a guy who knows what he is doing and really tries to kill opposing quarterbacks. Give me the Giants DC (who probably will be a head coach next year) or a disciple, I just want us to blitz from everywhere, every play and make a quarterback have to beat us with his decision making skills.
