Before Sunday's game, I was surprised at how many Green jerseys were in the stadium. Closer inspection showed at least 40% were #4's. While I love all the green, a piece of me is torn in that they're not real Jet fans. I guess a winning team will always pick up a snowball's bandwagon (and I hope it continues), I just don't know what to make of a legion of fans who will change jerseys like it was nothing to follow a player - especially in such a team sport. Then again, it shows how special this Favre guy is. I'm in the camp that believes that with Pennington, we're 6-5, still respectable. However, Pennington just doesn't make certain plays that FAvre has made, and those certain plays happened to come in crucial moments with passes that required a little something extra (like that thread the needle to Coles Sunday). Guess I'm saying welcome to your temporary housing Favre fans. Hope you enjoy your stay here, and hope its a long one.
What are you even talking about. Wasn't that in Tennessee? You really expect fans from there to be wearing Pennington jerseys? Why? They are Favre fans most likely and not Jets fans to begin with.
You know this is the closet the Jets will be playing this year to his home town, right? Favre even talked about it in his pres conference, how many of his friends and family showed (that's where the "old BretT Favre doesn't have many games left" comments came from -- he was saying this might be their last opportunity). The same thing happened whenever Packers went to New Orleans too. Mississippi has been a big Packer state almost totally due to Favre. Let's be realistic, if a lot of these people already have a Packer Favre jersey, their not going to go out and buy a Jets one too. Not in this economy. I'm glad you are able to welcome Favre bandwagoners ... being one and all Who knows, some of us may even stick around after he's gone, this is a neat team. I'm personally really loving me some Leon Also glad you are not getting reactionary about us like some seem to be here, it's a good thing. To this day a big reason there are so many Packers fans nationwide is because of Lombardi, these things can stick.
I think you guys are misunderstanding his point...... Favre may be one of the most popular football players EVER (before the JETS). I even have a few friends that are diehard to their respective teams, but have Favre jerseys (Green Bay) so there are some JETS "bandwagoners" but I'm sure many are just Favre fans, but if they want jump along for the ride, then so be it........ Those of us who've been waiting for 40 years will remember. That being said, I bought a FAVRE jersey too. :jets:
I think the point the OP is trying to make, is that most of the fans appear to be bandwagon fans... He's basing that on the fact that 40% of them have Favre jerserys. i.e. jerseys the bought this season. Not leon jerserys, revis, washington, rhodes, cotch, coles, etc. I'd say there are probably tons of bandwagon JETS fans already, and as they keep winning that fanbase will just keep growing. I'd make the same assumption as the OP, I bet of those 40% wearing Favre jerseys, 10% are die-hard fans. And no, it shouldn't annoy us as JETS fans. When we win the superbowl, it will be the sweetest feeling, and having 100 bandwagon fans celebrate with me in the bar isn't going to lessen that feeling
Why should this be a shock. I would bet any amount that Junc and several others are wearing their Dolphins Pennington Jersey at the stadium if we have clinced with no room to move up and Miami has a shot to make the playoffs the last game of the season.
What do you want to bet? name the price. I expect BS like that from the Favre fans that don't know any better but not from someone like you so let's have a bet. Any amount you want, I'll even buy your tickets to the game so you can see me.
You want to make silly statements like that, let's put some real money on it. Just b/c you struggle in arguments against me doesn't mean you need to make up lies. it doesn't help your weak arguments.
This is normal, it would probably eventually happen Favre or no Favre if the Jets keep winning. And it's gonna happen in the NY area a lot more than anywhere else, actually. I lived in St. Louis the year the Rams went from abysmal the year before, to Superbowl champs the next. The first few home games the local Fox station had to buy up thousands of tickets so the game would not be blacked out. By the end of that season everyone and their brother were flying Rams flags from their car/truck antennas (aside: man are those the quintessential "I am a bandwagon fan" emblems or what?) I think it's very likely the "Favre fans" may even stick more than the NY "bandwagon fans" actually. Because at least Favre fans are football fans. Jets win this year and lose the next, they'll be gone. That's what happened in St. Louis.
Can I get in on this? I don't really care what you wear one way or another, but free tickets sound good to me.
I'm proud of you Junc. Calling out for a financial incentive to give up wearing your Dolphins Pennington shirt is at least an acknowledgement of your love addiction. We may not need a GG intervention after all? The lashing out is still worrisome but hopefully it's just a symptom of healing and will wear off in time?
Take their money, junc, do it. Unless they're all talk as usual. My wife still wears her Pennington jersey but if she comes to the Miami game I'm going to insist she doesn't, as much as I like Chad he's the enemy that day. On topic, I don't care about bandwagon Jet fans, we had them in 1998, too. It means we're a good team so why complain about it?
I bought a Favre jersey this year. As a matter of fact my wife got one as did my younger daughter. My daughter wears hers to school on jersey day and is very proud of it. My wife wears hers when she watches football with me. The other Jet jerseys I have are all from players that are no longer with the team *sniff*Vilma*sniff* When the Jets signed a boatload of free agents to fill actual holes in talent matched with the signing of Favre I got energized about the Jets, more than I've been since the sack exchange days. I guess what I'm saying is that not all the #4 jerseys are bandwagon fans.
He said Chad DOLPHINS jersey. I actually don't have a Chad jets jersey(or dolphins:smile but if I did I'd still wear it. I don't buy jerseys for myself anymore but when I did I always got unusual players. I didn't get the guys that everyone had(which is probably why I never got a Chad) I had James hasty, brian Washington, Richie Anderson(from 1995), Leon Johnson. I still wear a santana Moss but I won that so it doesn't count.
I didn't think you bought a Dolphins jersey. People like biggs can't say anything abut Chad's play anymore so they have to resort to blind, foolish accusations. I always get WR jerseys, I've had Walker, Toon, two Keyshawns (96 and 98) and Chrebet. I need a new one, I've been thinking Cotchery but I'll probably stick with the Keyshawn until the numbers are completely worn off. Nothing against Coles but I think Cotchery will be here longer.
I guess I gotta do this. The TC thinks we would be 6-5 with Chad? Whats the dolphins record again? Are we a better team then them? You could make a point that our coaches would not understand how to use Chad as effectively as Miami but beyond that....? Heck Chad's last game against NE he outplayed both of Favres peformances against NE combined. ANd that throw to Coles. I have seen this a few times this week. That throw to Coles was a dumb decision. It turned out good and was a good throw - but way to risky on a 2nd down play. Thats the kind of decision that will cause a red zone turnover in a playoff game.
