I watch the NFL Replay on NFL network this afternoon, looking at an undefeated team that is slowly being figured out week by week. Chicago layed a groundwork to get the score close and to stay in the game, Jacksonville used that plan and had a 14-3 lead going into halftime. The Jets can take those two blueprints and create a gameplan to win out all 4 quarters. I will take a look at the overall philosophy of what the Titans do to win games. In the 1st quarter, the Jaguars sold out on the run - which can and did work, but they failed on the coverage on the receivers split wide. Gage is not a good receiver, and the Jets are not known for blown coverages due to Revis Christ. The Jaguars do not have a shut down DB anymore, and paid the price dearly with a 47-yrd receiption from Collins to Gauge early on. JAX also shut down the running game well, allowing only 3.5 YPC to C. Johnson. Collins when pressured, even when hearing footsteps can make an errant throw. He has a cannon but little accuracy. JAX sold out on the run and attacked Collins with pressure, causing an interception. Another thing I noticed was that Tennessee cannot cover on special teams if their life depended on it. Leon Washington could have 2 TDs with Westhoff's schemes. Even on punts, LW can add yards to the field position. This is a weakness the Jets will attack, we know how important special teams is on this team. The running game was working for JAX, their O-Line is not as good as the Jets, so I expect TJ and LW to do well, as long as the Jets do play a physical game. T-Rich can isolate the LB and give the RB space to run. Bullock is hurt with a rib cartilage problem which sidelines players for a month, he is on the field. Expose him. In the 2nd half, the Jaguars pulled a Jets, deviating from what is working and not adjusting correctly. If the Jets sell out on the run and let the secondary work man coverage, they'll be fine. Keller should have another huge game. The coverage LBs are not impressive on the Titans. Attack the seam all day and the chains will certainly move. Isolating Haynesworth was working for the Jaguars. Attacking Collins does wonders, he is not great with pressure and he is a statue in the pocket. If Pace, Ellis and Jenkins get close, not even to sack him, but bother him, they should cause a INT or two. Collins testing Revis is foolish, and I can see him do it at home. This game is not out of reach. Turnovers cannot happen, and neutralizing the running game will make this game a lot easier to win. Let Collins beat you. He has beat two teams with bad secondaries and no all pro DB. Let Revis and Rhodes take away their targets and the rush should get to Collins. Unless Sutton fucks it up.
.....and the rush should get to Collins. maybe we should unleash our secret weapon #6 draft pick..... jil
Good post and some good thoughts. i feel ok going into this game mainly because if we lose i'm not going to go crazy because they are 10-0. But right now, i feel like we do have a good shot of pulling off the upset. i expect to see the Titans game planning for Keller, so i don't see him having a huge game. But i think its time we have one of those Coles/Cotch days where each catches 10 passes for a combined total of 200 yards and 2 TDs. Really, i think the game is going to come down to turnovers whether or not we can apply pressure to KCollins. i say if we have no more than 1 turnover and we apply pressure and get a few sacks, we will win. i know that will be hard because he's only been sacked 5x all year, but the Jets are top 3 in the NFL in sacks and we barely blitz.
seriously the jets have to live outside the tackle box in this game. running in-between the tackles will be difficult with AH in there. however, it will likely be a healthy dose of the short passing game - screens, slants, hooks, etc etc. wouldn't be surprised to see brad smith, stuckey, or even clowney in there. speed will go a long way sunday unless the weather sux. jil
I think we should abuse Carr the whole game. I see an erratic DB with a penchant for jumping receivers early. We frustrate him he'll cough up favorable penalties. We should keep the same gameplan we had for NE. Manage the game, and pick spots to go deep.
To me, the Jets better be ready to be more physical than the Titans. The Titans play all four quarters hard and never really consider themselves out of a game even if things aren't always going well. This is why they have been successful. One of my main concerns right now is the lack of pass rush the Jets have had. That eventually will catch up to you. They need to get pressure up the middle and make Collins move around, which he really isn't comfortable with.
I seriously can't agree more. I checked up on their schedule and weekly stats on ESPN, and I think they are a solid team that got lucky with a weak schedule. Their running game is good, but our rush defense is better. They're passing game is good, but we have Revis Christ. This game will be won in the trenches, and I, simply, think we're better. The New York Jets have come to play.
I think the Titans definitely beatable. Couple of other questions: Where in the world is Clowney? Does anybody know when Gholston will join the Flight Crew?
I agree as well. We have plenty of talent to take out the Titans, but I think the key is going to be whether they can stay aggressive on D and not give Collins enough time to set up his throwing game. The Titans are obviously a formidable oppenent - you really can't scoff at a 10-0 record - but this game isn't making me half as nervous as the Pats game did last week. :jets:
i know its weird but the titans really dont scare me...they havent dominated recently and they havent played good teams...i really feel like we are going to crush them on sunday...just a gut feeling...
I think the Jets should use a hurry up offense like the Pats did against us last week. It will get Haynesworth off the field and give Favre a chance to get the ball to Cotchery, Coles, Keller, and Washington in the open field. Their defense is very similar to the Jets, so it makes sense that what worked on us will work on them. I don't know if the Jets pass rush will get to Collins. The Titans have only given up 6 sacks all season, and their line is very good. Our DB's should be able to control the receivers, and I don' think they'll be very successful running the ball, but the passes TE and HB screens will move them down the field. Hold them to field goals, limit turnovers on offense, and manage field position well and the Jets can take the Titans down.
ding ding ding.....sort of.... not the hurry up but the no huddle......there is a difference. the perfect time for the no huddle and/or hurry up is right after a turnover, after the opposing defense was already out there for several plays. its also good at the start of the 2nd half. and about 10 minutes to go in the 4th quarter. the goal of it is to gas the defense - especially the D-line. jil
I hope OP is right but Fisher is a much better head coach than fats. What would Tenn. record be with our coaching staff? 5-5 maybe? 7-3 at best. We match up well against these guys and if you reversed the HC, I'd say us no problem. Still, their OC sucks shit as we all know. Maybe bad coaching will cancel each other out and we win based on match-up superiority.
Seriously, imagine this team, throwing in some demon pass rusher living up to his 6th pick billing. That would be pretty sick and very impressive. I highly doubt it though, and I don't want to divert the topic. I'm just worried about how we score. I'm confident our defense can contain them.
I was just looking some things up for fantasy football and found the Jets haven't given up a rushing TD since week 6. Just wanted to share that. Carry on.
I think most of the Jets problems will be on defense, not offense. We've got one of the highest scoring offenses in the league. All the pieces have fallen together on offense. Favre is comfortable with the playcalling and with his targets and Jones is having a career year. The Titans defense is great, but if they focus on the run, the passing game can take over and vice versa. On defense, the Jets are going up against the best running team they've faces all year. I think they'll be able to stop the run, but Bo Scaife and Chris Johnson are their leading receivers, and defending the TE and screen passes are the Jets biggest problems on defense. They do a great job protecting the QB, so it will be hard to get to Collins before he can find the open man. I think they will be able to drive down the field, but if the Jets can hold them to field goals, they will win the game.
Wow thats a good stat, Kris Jenkins has been their mvp on defense i would say so far along with Revis of course, I know the Jets are gonna stop White, and Johnson, im just worried about Kerry Collins if he does to us what he did when the Bears stopped the run and made Collins beat them.
