Uggghhh Who cares the Jets are 7-3 and in 1st place with a win over all 3 division rivals on the road because they are a good team. They win and lose as a team and that's the bottom line......
NO NO Maybe- Chad is a very accurate although less risk taker QB. Could he have put the ball where it had to be for Cotchery to score like Favre did? Would th Pat(sies) defense played the Jets as honestly as they did with CP- meaning maybe TJ is having a better year running because of the deep ball threat. It all feeds on and off of each other. It is impossible to say. I mean, Favre is like some one who was the #1 salesperson at his firm who was unceremoniously sent to the curb. Perhaps he got alittle fat, a little insulated. He now has to start over. It is a little shaky at first before he lands those first big accounts, but he does- because he knows how to SELL. Chad is like, well, that really efficient and likeable clerk who shows up and does his job well no matter where he goes. He is successful but not like the Alpha Salesman- the rewards are smaller. Interesting point on BF running over to assist TJ. Or the decoy effort on the (dare I say it) wildcat formation. I really don't remember him doing things like those in GB in the later years. Although he delivered a decent pep talk to Ryan Grant during the NFC Divisional playoff game last year that seem to pick up Grant from a bad (2 fumbles) start. He is different this year and it shows. He starting to look like he is having fun. Watch out. It reminds me of the 90s. I mean its' done- I'm "moving on" (and enjoying it), the "train has left the station" (take that to the bank Mr McCarthy and Mr Thompson). All in All a good transaction for both teams. Let it go.
I can only hope the season and the division comes down to Week 17.. Penny looking for redemption in the meadowlands to knock the Jets out of the playoffs and win the division. That will be an epic matchup. And what happens, if during that game, Favre throws the game ending INT (as he has a habit of doing) and Penny comes through in the clutch for the Dolphins as he has all season. I would LOVE to see the massive implosion that would occur to Jets fan forums across the internet...
why do people get so pissed when this question is raised... the answers are no no and no...i love chad but no....in fact the demeanor of the team to start the game was calm and collected...not so with chad...
slim: you hit the nail right on the head with Favre's OT throw to coles. I've been thinking the last few days that there is no way chad can make that throw. good analysis.
If you want to compare the QB performance, don't ask anyone else other than his RB. True, OL plays a big role in RB performance, but you won't have that good of a time with a constant 8 men front. And consider this: Thomas Jones: Year Team G Att Att/G Yds Avg Yds/G TD Lng 1st 1st% 20+ 40+ FUM 2008 New York Jets 10 190 19.0 854 4.5 85.4 9 31 43 22.6 4 0 1 2007 New York Jets 16 310 19.4 1,119 3.6 69.9 1 36 55 17.7 2 0 2 Ronnie Brown: 2008 Miami Dolphins 9 128 14.2 504 3.9 56.0 9 62T 32 25.0 2 1 0 2007 Miami Dolphins 7 119 17.0 602 5.1 86.0 4 60 39 32.8 2 1 0 TJ's average per attempt went up by a whole yard. Expectation before the season (before the Favre trade) was that his average would be around 4.2 - the presence of Favre simply added another 0.3 yard per attempt. On the other hand, Ronnie Brown's average plummetted down from a healthy 5.1 yard to below 3.9 yard. (Does that look familiar? TJ averaged 3.6 yard per carry last season, with that road pylon of DL.) Say what you will, but it's more than obvious that defenses have stopped loading up on the box against the Jets this season; and it's showing. If anything, that's one of the most profound effect Favre brings to this offense. The run game feeds on His presence, then he feeds on the strong running game. This cycle was simply NOT there in the past few years.
ditto... Very few fans think that Chad is in the same echelon as Favre... and they all seem to be on this site. Most NFL fans know that this isn't the case. I'd be willing to bet that if you polled die hard NFL fans who know their shit, that most people (99 to 1) wouldn't even rank Pennington in their top 100 of greatest QBs of all time. I'm not trying to stir shit up here, that's just the common perception in the league. I personally think Chad has got mad skills at the short game and is probably one of the smartest QBs in the league right now. But by no stretch will Chad ever be considered an equal of Favre, or Montana, or Marino. Not unless he wins an MVP and a couple of SBs, then there might be some talk. But as of right now, Pennington is in the same league as a lot of other QBs that are doing a good job NOW, but won't be remembered more than 5 years after they retire.
