I always thought "elusive" players where the ones that excelled in the open field like Riggie Bush, Leon Washington, Bryan Westbrook...etc. but what do I know. I tell you this when I start listing elusive backs it takes me a while before I get to Curtis Martin.
160 carries 750 yards, 4.7 yards per carry, 8 tds 20 catches, 104 yards, 1 td......... 854 total yards and 9 total tds............ sounds like a bum to me! What are you smoking!
yeah but he wasn't when this thread was made so i stand by my statement. it's not like the thread starter bumped the thread this week or last week and was still calling him a bum. anyone who thinks Jones was running as good as he is now in the beginning of the year is an idiot.
you guys are ridiculous. one week Jones should be benched in place of Leon, the next Jones is the best back in the AFC. make up your damn minds.
Come on, half the fun of this is making people eat their words. Your rational logic and sense have no place here (in this thread).
actually jones was rushing pretty decent much of the year, most people were complaining about him during pre season which i said then was irrelevant to how he would perform in the reg season. and then the ne game because he didnt get into the end zone on those 3 tries even though he rushed for over 4 yards a carry. with the exception of the cardinals game jones has put up good numbers all year and the last 5 games he has played great.
4.7 YPC and 8 TD's after 9 games. I think there are only 4 or 5 guys with 100+ carries that have a better YPC. I think it's safe to say he's getting the job done.
Ftr I was never for dumping on Jones like some here did. Yeah, he was not running great at the beginning of the year, but the OL was just coming together then. What impressed me about Jones last year was he made decent yardage with a mediocre OL. Now he's got an OL in front of him that is coming together. And he's getting great production, seeing holes, cutting against the D. One of the things that helps too is that he doesn't put the ball on the ground much.
Here's the big question. While he certainly seems to deserve it at this point does anybody think he will make all pro? He is leading the AFC in yards and YPC. Third in TDs.
Jones is what he is, but the guy played like a beast yesterday. He had the blocks, but when he got into the defensive secondary he was fighting like we haven't seen since we traded for him. I found myself screaming over and over "Oh my god, Thomas Jones broke another tackle!" I hope he can play like that on Thursday night.
I'll second that brother. Jones played his best game as a Jet by far. Making the right cutbacks, bouncing outside when it was there, and breaking tackles nad keeping his legs driving. We need to see this more often.
The Jets are finally giving him carries and consequently he's beginning to look like the Thomas Jones that carried the Bears offense to the Super Bowl... except, our offense is 100x better than the Bears offense was when they went to the Super Bowl... Ah, Thursday is going to be an emotional day... either the Jets are going to give us one of the greatest victories of this decade or they are going to cause a firestorm in Internet Whiner land like never seen before. I just hope Mangini / Schottenheimer / Sutton keep up the style of football they've been using over the past two weeks... it is working very very well...
