While I fully agree it is time for Mangini to stand up & be counted it is just one of the 3 important games we have ahead of us NE, TN, Den & if we go 0-3 in those 3 games our season is done & we can begin in earnest the discussions if Mangini is really the right coach for us
Thursday night will tell us everything we need to know about our team. Now is the first legit time in years for us to take the Pats Out!
This is as big as it gets. There is no reason this team can't win the division and be the No. 2 seed in the playoffs and have a legit shot to get to the SB other than the Pats are standing in the way. The Pats are going to fight like cornered dogs to keep us from taking what's theirs. This is the first real playoff game that has elimination written all over it for the loser.
I see this as the game where the O-line has to make a statement. They have looked good as of late, but now comes a huge test. Yes, that shitty pun was intended. The pats have a huge and talented front seven. Even with Thomas out they are one of the biggest and best in the league. If we are going to have success runnign the ball are boys will have to play one of the best games they have all year. Time for them to put up or shut up this Thursday.
I hear what you are saying champ..but this coaching staff gets no respect at all..and I dont mean entirely from you. Quite honestly...its only the Jets that are playing a "NFL scrimmage" as one writer put it. After the Cardinal game..all I heard from fellow fans (giant fans) was what a terrible team the Cardinal were. Look at them since. I think people tend to downplay what this team has shown incredible...incredible glimpses of. Nobody has done to the Cardinals and the Rams what the Jets did....nobody. The pats were lucky to get a win against that team we tore apart yesterday. My point is simple....yes..we need to go up to New England and come back with a victory...any way we can....3-2? I will take it. With that said...the "glimpses" this team has shown this year shouldnt be underestimated or disrespected. They have easily put together two of the most impressive halfs of the NFL season. The Jets...with what they have shown lately....should win this game..and will win this game. You can tell by the way these guys are quietly talking...you can see it in their eyes. The Patriots needed that second game of the season and had something to prove. That day has passed. The Jets...on paper...are a better team a through z...and I really have no doubt that they will comeback with a w.
I see this as a statement game: Not just to get a victory and take over first place, but a statement game for everyone on the team. Mangini needs to start to prove his weight in gold. Can he adjust on the fly? The running game has been excellent, and all he has had to do passing wise is just keep the defense honest enough to not stack the box (which, having Favre alone usually makes a defense be honest anyways). However, there is going to be games where you will have the throw the ball more. Much more. Not just in playing from behind, but from the run game being stifled. There are going to be times when he is going to have to look at #4 and be like "you know what, Favre, we need you to win this game for us". The question is, in times like that, when the Jets must revert on the fly to a more pass oriented offense - has he learned from the games earlier this year. Has he yet figured out that when you need to throw the ball, what is the best sort of play calling to make favre and the jets be successful at it. Has he learned. Has he learned that even inside the 5, three straight runs for no gain is not going to be acceptable. He has so much talent on this roster, that it's time for Mangini to show he has what it takes to be a GOOD head coach. You need to learn how to best make your team win: And in times when it has to be the passing game to do it, has he learned enough over this season with #4 to get the right play calls to make the team successful? We'll see. Favre, meanwhile, seems very excited about Keller. I mean, a TE that can go deep? That's exciting. I will not be surprised for Favre to start going to him a lot more. We may start to see the favre from the 90's, always relying on the TE's on crucial downs.
Has anyone noticed that Mangini looks pissed off lately? He's got that look like he's going to tear your head off if you fuck up. He looks determined and focused. Still, What needs to be done is to protect against the short passing game. They need to pressure the shit out of Cassell at the same time as protecting the short ball. Cassell can also run, so he needs a shadow. I'm sick off these chowder-heads running the table.
I think Bowens could spy Cassel in some cases. Bowens' best attribute is beating up QBs... Cassel runs, he is going to pay for it.
They need to Blitz Cassel every time they can. He is not brady force him to make mistakes and throw them out of Sync. Just double Team moss and send the farm at em. And watch those cheesy ass Wr Screens to Welker and Dump offs to Faulk!
They need to keep up the weakside blitzes by Pace and the nickel backs... those hits have been dominating our opponents QBs! Hell, that hit Elam put on Bulger had him scared shitless for the rest of the half. Elam inspired the fear in Bulger... they need to do the same to Cassel.
Elam has a nice confidence in him now, so those boneheaded plays that he is prone to should be dwindling and he should really start to emerge as a little more than a JAG. Just keep sending him at the QB.
Elam, two weeks in the game, two plays to cause defensive TDs. Hard to do it much better than that.
Hope U R correct with ur post. Yes my son to downplayed the AZ win & now he says look at everyone else in that division. All I know is the next 3 games are statement games & the HC & CS & players have to come up big time or the season is done
We have an inferiority complex when it comes to playing the Pats. They can win if they can get over that.
