Pennington was a good guy unfortunately good guys dont always get W's... Gun Slingers like FAVRAY do! (No jab intended what so ever)
By now, I think everyone knows that I've always liked Chad. People also give alot of respect to Vinny but Pennington is a better QB than Vinny IMO. Arm strength issue? I really don't think it was his arm strength. I think it was the play calling and the way the team was being handled that screwed up his Jet career and his shoulder. I knew he was going to be a better QB this yr. If he was a Jet this year, he could have had us 5-3 aswell. I mean, have we used Favre's arm strength? That's why we brought him here right? If we were'nt going to use Favre's arm strength, then the better option was Pennington, who is extremely accurate in short passing games. Does that f**k up the run game? Maybe, but thats where the PLAYCALLING can take advantage of the teams cheating up. We RARELY called long passing plays in the last few yrs with CP in the helm. But CP was capable of making 50 yard passes. Don't give me the crap that he had no velocity on those passes. If you are going to throw 50 yds down the field, it is BOUND to have velocity on it. It may not be a perfect spiral, but then again, look at Favres deep plays. A lot of his passes aren't spirals either. If the defense is cheating, occasional long passes would help, but the CS chose to play it safe even if it meant punting. We are still seeing those p*ssy plays even with Favre behind Mangold. I was ecstatic when we traded for Favre, but very very disappointed the way he is being used. If we don't change the playcalling soon, we'll need a new OC. Brian Shithammer has been pretty shitty. As for CP, I'm rooting for him and don't care what ppl on this board say. Im never going to root for the Dolphins though so that sums it all up. Root for CP, but not at the cost of the Jets...peace!
Pennington is a good QB that we always knew would be good in the right situation. But we wanted more. Look at our team makeup, we don't have a good TE, we have average WRs and average RBs. If you build a team like that, you need an elite QB, or it just will not work. Add to that the fact that our defense was not elite, although it is beginning to shape up lately, and a mediocre QB is a recipe for failure. The Dolphins have a good TE, a great RB, and a very good defense. Chad is still mediocre, but he has the weapons there that he needs to manage the game and run an efficient offense. Basically Chad is a guy that will get everyone on the same page and take advantage of their natural talents. He won't make them into incredible players if they are not, but if they are already really good he will look better as a result. Thomas Jones is not near the talent Ronnie Brown is. Right now all our TEs put together are not as good as Fasano is. Our defenses are perhaps comparable. Their O-line is playing a little bit better than ours. The WRs are comparable, although Favre can get a bit more out of ours than Chad can get out of theirs, but he does pretty well considering what he has to work with.
Dan asked Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington how he would explain to his kids why he was no longer a Jet. Pennington said "well, see, the jets just got fed up with my noodle arm, my patented out pattern floaters, and my 10 yard hail mary bombs. And I guess coles got a little fed up with concusions trying to catch my rainbows over the middle. what a girl. any-who, other than that i'm not really sure, you'd have to ask them".
I couldn't agree more. Chad Pennington always was a team first guy. He deserves good fortune. I'm happy for his success in Miami, as long as it doesn't negatively affect the Jets.
I agreed with most of your post until I saw the sentence "The WRs are comparable" made me chuckle. Are you being serious? The dolphins receiving corps is among the very worst in the league. They have ginn, camarillo and ernest wilford. Coles and cotchery are proven receivers who are very good and have been for a while. Both Camarillo and Ginn would not start on at least 80% of other teams. Coming into this year, Ginn and camarillo both had 1 year experience with Camarillo having 8 catches for 160 yards last season, and ginn had 34 catches for 420 yards and two td's. Is that remotely comparable to the very established careers of coles and cotchery? If you think so, Can I also get some of what you are smoking?
I actually went back and forth with that before finally deciding to just write that. I mean otherwise Favre's frankly underperforming play recently is hard to defend, and Pennington doing so well is hard to explain. Coles and Cotch haven't been getting separation all year, so I figure maybe it's a wash. It doesn't matter what your name is or what you've done in your career, it matters what you can do now and will do. For instance, right now, you'd be hard pressed in saying TO is better than Anquan Boldin, Boldin is one of the, if not the, best WR in the league right now. Also look at LT, he has been underperforming this year, I'd have to say AP is the better back right now as well (and a few others). Obviously TO and LT have the far better careers so far and are the bigger names, but right now, I'd definitely rather have AP and Boldin on my team. That's not to say the Fins WR corps is any good though. But still, maybe they aren't quite as bad as we thought they were. Camarillo seems to be pretty good, and Ginn is really fast.
