Ellis has also moved inside in the 3-4 on third and long, obvious passing downs and has put good pressure on the QB that way also

true, but it is my firm belief you need a strong playmaker at every level of the defense. DL, LB, and one DB to make strong plays. That makes a great defense.

I think the Jets have that going on.

    Oh definitely.

DL - Jenkins, Ellis, Moseley in limited actions

    LB - Pace, Harris, Thomas

DB - Rhodes, Revis, potentially Lowery

Even through this, I can't wait to watch us build the DL through the draft. Jenkins probably has a good 3 years at NT, but we can go after ends.

3-4 DE was what he was drafted to play by Parcells in 2000. No surprise he's thriving with the proper personnel around him.

This shouldn't be a surprise. He has been our best pass rusher since Abraham left and now that we have a true NT he has more freedom to do his thing.

I think Ellis was just as good last year as he is this year. The difference is that this year he has had a bit of help from the guy on the nose

Jenkins makes it possible for the 3-4 to work. He shows what this defense is all about -- after suffering through D-Rob for those years, it's a revalation.

Calvin's doing great, and Thomas is doing great, too.

All because the front is working right.

thought he was solid last year, people who thought he should be traded can go to hell

jenkins next to him has turned him back into an elite player

He´s having a great season, not only when it comes to passrushing, but also against the run. He was pushed around last year a lot, you could often see him stumble back torwards the ILB.

I thing he looks bigger, wich would be another explanation besides Jenx.

ellis was drafted as a 3-4 end and he was done a disservice by edwards and company when they went to a 4-3 cover 2........

there were many astute people around here ripping them a new one when they changed schemes.

ellis is also benefitting from having all world jenkins at NT - a great example of how that one position has effects on the DL and LB positions.

looks like the jets finally figured it out - 8 years post parcells

I disagree about last season. Last year Ellis was effectively taken out of plays with double-teams, even at the beginning of the games when he wasn't tired out. This year he is taking on double-teams and fighting through them like I haven't seen since 2004. He has fire that he lacked last season.

I think Jenkins brings a lot more than that big body and feirce attack on the opposing O-line. The guy brings leadership and attitude and swagger and fire to the defensive huddle, and it shows. He has had a great effect on Ellis.

The perfect example of the Jenkins effect was the penalty last week.

I remember thinking "fuck, Jenkins!" then "wait, this is Kris Jenkins we're talking about he's going to get mad" to "wow" in what seemed like 15 seconds.

We've needed that kind of attitude for a while...and this is probably the area where Ellis deserves the most criticism because he never really stepped into that role.

Excellent point. I love Ellis and hope he crush his personal best for sacks in a season. Real class act who goes out there every week and earns his paycheck. My favorite Ellis hit of all time was the hit he laid on brady to end the game at NE mangini's first year coaching. GO Shaun! GO Jets!
