http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/...oks-to-LT-for-help?CMP=OTC-K9B140813162&ATT=5 I wore his jersey yesterday and hey he did jump in on a gang tackle...But a bad miss on the KO return.
A reporter asked Mangini about this after the game. It was the last question asked and Eric acted as if he knew nothing about Gholston and Taylor. It's good to see Vernon using his day off to try and help get his career kick started.
Nice Article... Jets fans were on Gholston like he was Obama Pre-Draft... I had reservations about him myself... But, hopefully this turns out ok and he gets it done with Hard work.
the worst part of that article was the fact that after 8 games, Gholston still has no idea what this defense is all about. Pretty pathetic, if you ask me.
I really don't think they told him anything about the X's and O's in college. The basics yes, but nothing in depth. Its like a QB who was in the spread offense and then has to run a NFL Pro offense, its not easy to adapt very quickly. The kid basically has to learn the game and then play it. Its sad, really sad. I still think he can put some decent years together, but I have a feeling he'll go to another team and do somewhat ok when his contract is up.
already??!! it's been 8 games...let's give the kid 2 yrs to become whatever it is he will become, then evaluate him.he is too gifted physically to do otherwise..
The fact that he reached out to LT is the only point. How many busts sit back and look at the ole checkbook and say "worse case scenerio...Im rich". I think thats very impressive..very.
i've stated I'm waiting until 2010, but its his playbook grasp that is of concern. I really think that he has to be taught the game because Ohio State relied on his physical ability more than his savvy to make plays. He has to start the process from scratch. I begin to jump on the bust bandwagon if he still can't sniff the field next year, but I think he'll get the beat writers to notice him in TC next year.
The man's work ethic and character are never questioned. I just hope this works - I was screaming to get him in the draft, I just want to know what exactly he's struggling with. I know he's not an X's and O's type of player, but where do the troubles lie? I still think if the Jets can blow out a team early in a game they can throw him in there and let him learn.
Totally agree...but it takes some soul searching to look in the mirror and go outside the box and look for help. Plenty of guys with great character that might not choose to do that.
I'm with you JW...the kid's learning a completely new position in a completely new defensive scheme...and he's not a dummy, so yeah, it's gonna take him a while to feel comfortable and react instead of think. He's doing the right things right now and that's all we can ask of him.
Exactly. Couldnt agree with you more. Because of the new scheme and the honeymoon period most first year guys get...this is something that didnt need to be done right now..but he chose to do so. Kudos.
This is an excellent move by VG and thankfully, LT is with it. I am very impressed by VG's character and cannot help but think he will be successful. Hats off to you Vernon.
I rather have him struggle now then later on to be honest, if we make the playoffs theres a chance he can make a contribution, how huge would that be
Same, except I was screaming NOT to get him in the draft (I wanted Ryan, which just goes to show how brilliant I am  ) In any case, as several of us have been saying, the fact that he's done almost nothing as the #6 pick in the draft is disconcerting. Others kept saying he just needs time to develop, but apparently he's not developing the way he should, as his seeking out Taylor proves. It's great he's taking the initiative to get better, and it makes one root for him harder, but I'm even more concerned now that this was a wasted pick.
Sorry, but as I said in my previous post, if he were learning at the rate the organization expected him to learn he wouldn't be seeking outside assistance.
