The New York Jets placed WR Stephen Hill on injured reserve yesterday due to progressive knee swelling. Hill had struggled for the most part of his second season in the NFL, catching just 24 passes for 342 yards, 1 TD. Hill said that the constant knee swelling prevented him from running and cutting at full speed.
The Jets drafted Hill in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft, hoping to eventually make him their primary receiver. In this season's first three games, he caught 13 passes for 233 yards and a score. Then, after suffering a concussion against the Titans, he’s had just 10 receptions for 109 yards and no touchdowns.
The Gang Green signed WR Saalim Hakim, the younger brother of former NFL player Az-Zahir Hakim, from the practice squad to take Hill’s place. Hakim has a blistering 4.2 speed but never played in an NFL game.
