WR Santonio Holmes will stay with the Gang Green after agreeing to restructure his contract. He signed a $50M deal with the team back in July of 2011 with $24 million guaranteed. Holmes was slated to make $7.5M guaranteed in the upcoming season, but there was an offset language in the deal. Even if the Jets had cut him, Holmes would not be able to "double dip" and earn a contract from both the Jets and whatever team picked him up. The terms of his new deal have not been announced.
DL Mike DeVito signed a 3-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs. He will received more than $6M in guaranteed money. The Jets have been working to re-sign DeVito, 28, since the combine, but with at least six teams interested, the cap-strapped Jets were unable to get a deal done before free agency opened at 4pm today. DeVito spent his entire career with the Gang Green, starting in 38 games, registering 202 tackles (126 solo) and 2.5 sacks.
The Jets will host free agent WR Brandon Gibson on Wednesday. He has spent the past four seasons with the Rams and caught 51 passes for 691 yards and 5 TDs last year.
Free agent RB Mike Goodson will visit the Jets as well. Goodson spent last season with the Raiders, rushing for 221 yards on 35 carries and no touchdowns.
The Jets have shown interest in re-signing free agent OG Matt Slauson, but Slauson is also drawing interest from the Giants, Raiders and Cowboys. Former Jets offensive coordinator Tony Sparano is now the offensive line coach with the Raiders, while ex-Jets offensive line coach Bill Callahan is the assistant head coach in Dallas.
