Recently acquired from Carolina OT Jeff Otah failed his physical, which essentially nullified the trade with the Carolina Panthers. Per terms of the trade, Otah needed to pass a physical within seven days of reporting to the team last week. He failed his first physical upon arrival, but was optimistic on Monday that he would pass it.
Otah, 26, was expected to compete for the starting job at right tackle with OT Wayne Hunter, who struggled last year. The failed physical means that Hunter, who has been repeatedly criticized for his shaky play in his first year as the starter in 2011, will almost certainly be the Week 1 starter against the Bills.
