DT Sione Pouha, who started in 44 games for the Jets over the last 3 years, chose to stay with the Gang Green as he signed a 3-year deal instead of becoming an unrestricted free agent. Financial details of his new contract weren't immediately available.
Pouha, 33, a three-year starter, is regarded as one of the better run-stuffers in the league. He recorded 58 tackles last season, most on the team among the linemen, even though he only played primarily on first and second down. He also made one sack, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.
Pouha didn't get to the NFL until age 26 after serving in a religious mission in college. He took over injured NT Kris Jenkins in 2009 and has kept the starting job ever since.
The Jets drafted Pouha in the 3rd round in 2005.
