After a couple of days of deliberating between the Jets, Titans and Ravens, WR Derrick Mason chose to sign with the Gang Green. Mason, 37, who hasn't missed a game since 2002, will join WR Santonio Holmes and WR Plaxico Burress as the team's top 3 wide receivers. He was cut last week by the Ravens who wanted him back at a reduced price, but Mason decided to join Rex Ryan whom he knows since their days in Baltimore.
Mason will be the Jets' No. 3 receiver, used in the slot. He's still quick in and out of his breaks and can be effective against zone coverage, but he will struggle to gain separation against man-to-man.
The Jets desperately needed Mason after letting WR Jerricho Cotchery go earlier in the week. Mason is the Ravens' all-time leading receiver in yards and receptions. He is the only player in NFL history to produce at least 5,000 total return yards and 11,000 receiving yards, and his 924 career receptions rank 12th in NFL history.
