The New York Jets released FB Tony Richardson and WR David Clowney. The Richardson move is definitely quite a surprise, as the 16-year veteran is one of the vocal leaders on this team. It's possible the team could bring back Richardson after Week 1, when his veteran minimum salary of $855,000 would not be guaranteed.
Clowney, once known as Mr. August, has been inconsistent. The Jets wanted him to become a solid special teams player, but Clowney obviously failed to deliver.
RB Chauncey Washington has been let go as well.
The Gang Green also claimed WR Patrick Turner (Miami), DL Marcus Dixon (Dallas) and OT Patrick Brown (Minnesota) off waivers.
Additionally, the team signed LB Ricky Foley, LB Cody Brown, WR Larry Taylor and C Robby Felix to the practice squad.
