NFL Draft

Jets send Leon Washington to Seattle

Admin - April 24, 2010

The New York Jets made another trade in the 2010 NFL Draft, as they sent RB Leon Washington to the Seattle Seahawks along with their #236 overall pick (7th round) for Seattle's #139 overall (5th round) and selected FB John Conner from Kentucky.

Conner, 5'11", 246 lbs, played in the final twelve games of his senior year, missing the season opener vs. Miami (Ohio) and part of fall camp due to an ankle sprain. He started 8 times, rushing 31 times for a career-high 158 yards (5.1 yards per carry) and 2 TDs.

According to NFLDraftScout.com, "despite less than stellar statistics as a ballcarrier, Conner's blocking ability helped him set a career record by playing in 53 games for the Wildcats. Called the "best blocking back" in the Southeastern Conference by the Birmingham News, his crunching blocks led teammates to nickname him "The Terminator."

Conner will be a nice addition to the Jets' dominant rushing attack, as the Jets needed someone to complement 38-year old FB Tony Richardson.

As for Leon Washington, his contract demands and unhappiness with the Jets front office, plus a season ending injury last year, were the reasons of his departure from New York. The Jets obviously felt that newly drafted RB Joe McKnight would be able to do some things where Washington used to excel.

Following this trade, the New York Jets have no picks left in this year's draft.
