According to ESPN.com, the New York Jets released CB Lito Sheppard, who was signed as a free agent before the last season. Sheppard was due a $10M roster bonus, so this move was pretty much expected, considering that Sheppard had a subpar season at best.
Backup QB Kellen Clemens received an original-round tender (second). But because the Jets used second-round tenders, higher than their draft position, on RB Leon Washington and WR Brad Smith, they would instead receive a third-rounder if another team signs him.
Original tenders were also placed on S Eric Smith (third), OT Wayne Hunter (third) and CB Drew Coleman (sixth). The Jets also have the right of first refusal on S James Ihedigbo, who was undrafted.
The Gang Green did not tender WR Wallace Wright, LB Marques Murrell or DT Howard Green, making them free agents.
