They did it! Against all odds the New York Jets weathered the early storm to wear down the San Diego Chargers and win 17-14 on the road! The best defense in the NFL limited San Diego to only 4 of 13 on third downs and came up with two crucial interceptions to stop a potential scoring drive and then put the Jets in a scoring position.
The Jets had no first downs up until the middle of the second quarter but kept holding up, as they trailed at halftime only 7-0. The Gang Green came out swinging in the second half and scored a field goal on the opening possession.
As the third quarter was coming to an end, S Jim Leonhard picked off Rivers deep in the Chargers' territory. Then QB Mark Sanchez found TE Dustin Keller in the end zone to put the Jets on top.
On the next Jets' possession RB Shonn Greene broke through for a 53-yard run to extend the lead to 17-7. The Chargers tried to come back, but the Jets' running game and big plays on defense were too much for them to overcome.
Next Sunday the Jets will face the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship Game. The same Colts that "gifted" the Gang Green a playoff berth by pulling Peyton Manning out of the game in Week 16. The early lines have the Colts favored by 7.5 points, the same spread the Chargers had when betting opened last week, but look where they are now - out of the playoffs!!!
