Earlier today the New York Jets signed RB/WR Danny Woodhead to the 53-man roster and basically confirmed that both WR Jerricho Cotchery and WR Brad Smith would not play tomorrow against the Buffalo Bills. The Gang Green also released DT Howard Green to make room for Woodhead.
Woodhead, 24, has come full circle from surviving the final cut day, being cut one day later, signed to practice squad, and now back to the active roster. Earlier this week Woodhead's number was changed to 83, which indicated his switch from running back to wide receiver. Playing in preseason as a running back, Woodhead rushed for a club preseason record 158 yards and two touchdowns in the preseason finale against the Eagles. As a wide receiver, Woodhead is expected to be used in the slot.
WR David Clowney, who caught a career high 4 passes for 72 yards against the Dolphins, will make his first career NFL start tomorrow.
