Head coach Rex Ryan has backed off from his previous statement that he will choose the starting quarterback before preseason game against the New York Giants. Earlier today Ryan said that the quarterback competition was "almost status quo" and the decision would be made when "the timing is right."
Such a change is most likely caused by QB Mark Sanchez' struggles in recent practice sessions, while QB Kellen Clemens has noticeably improved since the first preseason game. Hopefully, the next preseason game against Ryan's former team, the Baltimore Ravens, will help break this stalemate between the two Jets' quarterbacks. Meanwhile, both Sanchez and Clemens went 5 of 8 in 11-on-11 drills this morning. Then, Sanchez threw another interception in the afternoon.
It sure looks like the battle is not over just yet, despite that numerous pundits have already put Sanchez in the starting lineup.
The Jets will conduct two full practices tomorrow in what will be the final day open to the public at SUNY Cortland. They will have a short practice session on Friday morning, which is not open to the public, and then go back to New Jersey.
