Rookie QB Mark Sanchez will be the starting quarterback against the Baltimore Ravens in the nationally televised game on Monday, August 24. The announcement was made earlier today by head coach Rex Ryan. This is going to be a real test for the rookie, as he'll be facing one of the best defensive units in the NFL.
Sanchez played just one series on Friday against the Rams and looked pretty impressive, completing 3 of 4 passes for 88 yards. He didn't look good in today's practice though - just 2 of 10. QB Kellen Clemens, who's still supposedly in the race for the starting job, was 7 of 13 this morning.
In other news, OG Alan Faneca had surgery on his broken finger and might miss the entire preseason. So, the Jets' offensive line might be missing 3 starters again against Baltimore. C NIck Mangold (knee) and OT Damien Woody (concussion) are injured as well and their status is uncertain at this time.
Neither P Reggie Hodges nor P T.J. Conley managed to impress Ryan in the game vs. the Rams, and the Gang Green are now looking for another punter. They worked out P Ken Parrish this morning.
The Jets have also brought back WR Huey Whittaker whom they waived 4 days ago.
