The competition for the starting quarterback job continued last night, as the New York Jets held their annual Green & White scrimmage in front of 6,100 fans at SUNY Cortland. QB Mark Sanchez completed 9 of 16 passes for 70 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT. QB Kellen Clemens went 5 of 7 for 26 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT. In addition, 3 of Sanchez' passes were dropped.
Was this enough for Sanchez to take a clear lead in the duel with Clemens? The Star Ledger seems to think so.
Rich Cimini of the NY Daily News, however, thinks that the battle is in "dead heat."
I'd side with Cimini on this one. Sanchez has been mostly with backups and against backups, so it's not exactly fair to compare his performance to Clemens', as the latter has faced only the starters. If both of them get plenty of snaps with the first team offense in preseason games (against the opponents' first team defenses, of course), we'll have a much better understanding of the situation. So, the battle is still wide open and up for grabs...
Ticketmaster.com apparently had a glitch in their system yesterday, as some lucky fans managed to score 5-game tickets (1 preseason + 4 regular season games) for only $125 apiece (that's $25 per game).
