The New York Jets completed the 2003 preseason, as they defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 17-9.
The starters on both sides did not play, letting backups fight for the remaining roster spots. Marquel Blackwell started at quarterback for the Jets and completed 7 of his 12 passes for a total of 111 yards. Blackwell's two touchdown passes to FB B.J. Askew and WR Jonathan Carter gave the Jets a 17-9 lead after the first two quarters.
The Jets' backup defense had a solid game as well. They intercepted 3 passes and recovered one fumble. CB Tyrone Carter made one of the interceptions and also recorded one of the Jets' two sacks.
Next Thursday the Jets will take on the Washington Redskins in the season opener. The game will be broadcast nationwide on ABC.
