Chad Morton's two kickoff returns for touchdowns gave the Jets a dramatic 37-31 overtime win over the Buffalo Bills. His first touchdown return in the 2nd quarter helped the Gang Green get back in the game that they were losing 0-10. His second touchdown in overtime simply saved the Jets\' asses, as the momentum was surely going to change after the Bills had tied the game with just 26 second left in the 4th quarter.
QB Vinny Testaverde had a solid game, completing 24 of his 30 passes for a total of 210 yards and 2 touchdowns. The running game was totally shut down - only 73 yards on the ground, and the longest Jets\' run belonged to Testaverde. RB Curtis Martin left the game late in the second quarter with an ankle sprain, and his status for next week is unknown. In his absence, RB LaMont Jordan carried the ball 7 times for 32 yards, and also had a crucial fumble, which led to a Bills' touchdown.
The defense once again looked horrible, despite 2 interceptions and 1 recovered fumble. The Bills amassed 142 yards on the ground, and 3 rushing touchdowns. The Jets' pass-rush, that did sack Drew Bledsoe 4 times, was better than in preseason, but still not good enough to prevent Bledsoe from easily hitting his wide open receivers. The coverage on the game-tying 29-yard touchdown in the 4th quarter was absolutely atrocious! Herman Edwards, do us all a favor and get rid of that joke of a safety named Damien Robinson! First, he tried to block a punt late in the 4th quarter when the Jets had a 7-point lead and were going to get the ball back, and got hit with a 15-yard penalty for roughing the kicker. Then, he got behind Eric Moulds in the end zone, allowing the latter to easily make a catch.
Well, the Jets are 1-0 and will host the New England Patriots next week in the Meadowlands. Thank you, Chad Morton, once again for saving the team today, but I don\'t think you'll be able to do this two weeks in a row. So, it\'s time for this "revamped" defense to step up and start playing!
