The Jets lacked depth at safety and they addressed the need by agreeing to terms with S Lamarcus Joyner, who spent previous two seasons with the Raiders. Joyner, 30, is a 7-year veteran who was originally drafted by the Rams in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft. He spent five seasons with the Rams, starting in 42 games. Joyner signed a 4-year deal with the Raiders in 2019 but was released after the 2020 season. Last season Joyner played in 14 games (6 starts), recording 66 tackles (53 solo), 5 pass defenses and 6 tackles for loss.
The Raiders played Joyner out of his natural safety position, choosing to experiment with him as a nickel back. He never looked like the player he once was for the Rams.
