RB Bilal Powell, who suffered a season ending neck injury last season, is coming back to the Jets for his 9th season in green and white. He had an impressive workout with the team earlier today and has reportedly agreed to a 1-year deal. Powell, 30, was selected by the Jets in the 4th round in 2011. He had his best season in 2017 when he started in 10 games, rushing for 772 yards and 5 TDs. Powell had 343 rushing yards (4.3 yards/carry) and 110 receiving yards in seven games last season.
The Jets have four other running backs on their roster: recently signed Le'Veon Bell, Ty Montgomery, Elijah McGuire and Trenton Cannon. Bell is the sure starter, while Mongomery, a former Packer, is a multidimensional threat that fits Adam Gase's system. McGuire and Cannon, however, could be on their way out.
Powell is the 10th leading rusher in Jets history. He has 3,446 yards on the ground and 15 touchdowns. He also caught 204 passes for 1,567 yards and 5 receiving scores.
