As the coveted prize of this year's free agency, QB Kirk Cousins, went to the Vikings, the Jets had little choice but to re-sign QB Josh McCown. McCown, who will turn 39 later this year, had a career season last year with the Gang Green. He completed 67.3% of his passes for a total of 2,926 yards, 18 TD, 9 INT. McCown is expected to sign a one-year, $10M contract when free agency opens on Wednesday.
According to various sources, the Gang Green are also in talks with QB Teddy Bridgewater of the Minnesota Vikings. Bridgewater, 25, had two decent seasons with the Vikes before suffering a non-contact injury to his left leg. He missed the entire 2016 season and played in only one game in 2017.
Even if the Jets land Bridgewater, they still might draft a quarterback at #6 overall, as there are too many options available in this year's draft. Whatever the Jets decide to do, McCown will definitely serve as a great mentor to Bridgewater or the 1st round pick.
