Long gone are the days of splashy free agent moves that the Jets were known for under Rex Ryan and Eric Mangini. The Gang Green made a couple of low profile free agent signings yesterday, hopefully filling up the glaring holes at the tackle and kicker positions. LT Kelvin Beachum, formerly of the Jaguars and Steelers, was graded as the 63rd best tackle out of 78 last year by ProFootballFocus. PK Chandler Catanzaro was a pretty good kicker in his first three years with the Cardinals. His production, however, took a steep dive last season when he missed 7 field goal attempts and 4 extra points.
According to the NFL Network, Beachum's deal is $24M for 3 years, including $12M in guaranteed money. Beachum is only 27 and could be a steal if he can come back to the level of play that he showed with the Steelers before tearing his ACL.
Catanzaro is another could be a steal kind of player but only if he can revert his form back to 2015 when he converted over 90% of FG attempts.
The Gang Green also re-signed LS Tanner Purdum. Purdum and MLB David Harris are the only remaining players from the Jets’ last playoff team in 2010
