For the second year in a row the New York Jets selected an offensive tackle with their first round pick. OT Armand Membou from Missouri is projected to solidify the Gang Green's offensive line for years to come starting on the opposite side from last year's first round pick, OT Olu Fashanu. Membou, 6'4", 332 lbs, played in 36 games (30 starts) at right tackle for Missouri. He might be a bit short for an NFL tackle but he compensates for his lack of height with athleticism and agility to stay connected to pass rushers. Membou also possesses impeccable body control and poise.
Overall, this is a solid pick. The game is won and lost in the trenches and the Jets continue to build a solid offensive line the way it should be done, instead of patching it with cast-offs as they have done in recent years.
The Gang Green will have two picks tomorrow: #42 overall in the 2nd round and #92 overall in the 3rd.
