The head coach search is finally over. After interviewing almost 20 candidates, the New York Jets have finally settled on Aaron Glenn, a former Jets cornerback and defensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions. Glenn, 52, was the Gang Green's first round draft pick back in 1994 and spent 8 seasons with the franchise as a player, intercepting 24 passes in 121 games.
Following the end of his playing career, the Jets hired Glenn as their personnel scout in 2012. Two years later the Browns employed Glenn as their assistant defensive back coach. He became secondary coach with the Saints in 2016 before being hired by the Lions as defensive coordinator in 2021.
Glenn's Detroit defense never produced any spectacular numbers. However, the Lions did shut down former Jets bust, Sam Darnold, in the final regular season game, clinching the division and first round bye. Apparently, making former Jets bust look like a bust was enough for Woody Johnson and Co. to hire Glenn to be next Jets head coach.
Will it be different this time than the previous seven (!!!) head coaches that Woody Johnson has hired over his tenure? Time will tell but don't hold your breath.
