The New York Jets opened free agency on Monday with the signing of OG Laken Tomlinson, formerly of the 49ers. Tomlinson, 30, has reportedly agreed to a 3-year deal worth $40M with $27M guaranteed. Tomlinson played 5 seasons for the 49ers missing just one game during that timeframe. He was selected to his first Pro Bowl last year.
The Jets began last season with OG Greg Van Roten as their starting right guard. Van Roten struggled and the Jets had to acquire OG Laurent Duvernay-Tardif. Duvernay-Tardif is a free agent and expected to leave, while Van Roten, entering the final year of his contract, will be a backup. The Jets are now set at the guard position. Last year's first round pick, OG Alijah Vera-Tucker, will be starting at the left guard.
In other news, the Gang Green re-signed WR Braxton Berrios to a 2-year $12M contract, which includes $7M in guaranteed money. Berrios was an All-Pro selection last season as a return specialist, as he averaged league best 30.4 yards per kickoff return. He also had career high 46 receptions for 431 yards, 2 TDs.
