As all NFL teams had to trim down their rosters to 53 players today, the Gang Green completely revamped their depth chart at tight end, as they traded TE Chris Herndon and cut TE Ryan Griffin. Herndon, along with a 6th round pick, went to the Vikings in exchange for a 4th round pick. Griffin, who came from Houston two years ago, had an impressive year in 2019 when he caught 34 passes for 320 yards, 5 TDs before completely disappearing last season. The Jet currently have only two tight ends on their roster, Trevon Wesco and Tyler Kroft, as preseason star Kenny Yeboah was released as well.
Other notable cuts included WR Vyncint Smith (started in 4 games in 2019), RB Josh Adams (2 rushing touchdowns last season) and S Sharrod Neasman (free agent signing this offseason).
Also, the Jets are set to become the first team in eight years to go into a season with no regular season experience at the quarterback position, as both of their QBs (Zach Wilson and Mike White) have never taken a snap in a regular season game.
