The Jets have finally reached an agreement with rookie QB Zach Wilson on a 4-year contract worth $35.1M, including a signing bonus of approximately $22.9M and a fifth year team option. Wilson, the Gang Green's top draft pick this year, was the only unsigned played selected in the first round.
The two sides could not agree on the contract language, as Wilson wanted his signing bonus right away, while the Jets wanted to defer some of it to 2022. Then, there was also the offset clause, which provides the team with financial protection in the unlikely event it cuts Wilson before his four-year fully guaranteed contract is complete. Now it looks like Wilson will get his entire signing bonus within 15 days, while the Gang Green do get the offset clause.
