The New York Jets have released DL Henry Anderson, who was going to make $8.2M in the upcoming season. The Gang Green acquired Anderson in exchange for a 7th round draft pick from the Colts in 2018. It looked like a great deal, as Anderson recorded a career high 7.0 sacks in his first season with the Jets. Anderson's excellent play led to a 3-year contract extension worth $25.2M, which included $17M in guaranteed money, but his production was never on the 2018 level again. He had just one sack in 2019 and half a sack in 2020, despite starting in 21 games. The Jets would have most likely released Anderson before last season but his big contract prevented that move.
The Jets now have over $76M of salary cap space (only the Jaguars have more) and are expected to be major players in free agency.
