The Le'Veon Bell circus is finally over. The Gang Green have released the disgruntled running back, who they thought would be the answer to their ground game woes two years ago. Bell, 28, one of the best backs in the league at that time, sat out the 2018 season due to a contract dispute with the Steelers. The Jets made a free agency splash a year later when they signed Bell to a grossly overpaid 4-year, $52.5M contract.
Last year Bell ran for just 789 yards, averaging a measly 3.2 yards/carry. He played in only two games this season, gaining 74 yards on 19 carries (3.9 yards/carry).
The Jets reportedly tried to trade Bell but no team wanted to take on his huge salary cap number. Hence, they had no choice but release him.
Adam Gase's list of "achievements" just keeps on growing. He has pretty much ruined QB Sam Darnold, who many of us hoped would be the Gang Green's franchise signal caller for years to come. He has failed to utilize Bell's strengths and traded away the team's best defensive player. Yet he's still head coach and the Jets are the laughing stock of the league.
