ILB Neville Hewitt, who started in 12 games for the Jets last year, is back with the team. According to ESPN.com, the Gang Green agreed to a 1-year $2M deal with Hewitt. He turned out to be a very valuable backup last year when he replaced injured C.J. Mosley in the middle.
Hewitt, 26, joined the Jets on a 1-year deal in 2018 after 3 seasons with the Dolphins. He started 4 games in 2018, recording 39 tackles (26 solo) and 1.5 sacks. While filling in for the injured starters in 2019, Hewitt recorded 75 tackles (44 solo), 3 sacks and 2 interceptions. He was involved in 69% of all defensive snaps and 27% of snaps on special teams.
The Jets also brought back CB Arthur Maulet, who was a restricted free agent, to a 1-year deal. He played in 12 games last season, starting in 6 of them. Maulet recorded 26 tackles (12 solo) and had one interception.
