C Nick Mangold, a 7-time Pro Bowler and 2-time First Team All-Pro, has announced that he's officially retires from the NFL. Mangold, 34, was the cornerstone of the Jets' offensive line for 11 years after being drafted at #29 overall in 2006.
He missed just four games in the first ten NFL seasons before suffering an ankle injury that forced him to miss 8 games in 2016 and placed him on injured reserve. On February 25, 2017 Mangold was released by the Jets who wanted to offload his big salary after yet another poor season.
Mangold wanted to continue playing but could not find any teams willing to sign him in 2017. He will sign a one day contract with the Gang Green next week and retire as a Jet.
