The Jets put themselves in a better position to select a franchise player this morning, as they traded up from #6 overall to #3 overall in the upcoming NFL Draft. The Gang Green had to give up their two second round draft picks this year (#37 and #49 overall) and their second round selection next year.
Most experts predict the Jets to select a quarterback in the first round. The Browns and the Giants, who pick before the Gang Green, are expected to select a quarterback as well. So, this move definitely puts Todd Bowles' team in a much better position to select a franchise signal caller. Although, as we remember with the Mark Sanchez pick, trading up to get a quarterback does not always work out.
Earlier this week the Jets lost out on signing free agent QB Kirk Cousins and had to settle on re-signing QB Josh McCown and bringing QB Teddy Bridgewater on a one-year deal.
This deal puts in the Jets in a much better overall position to get their coveted franchise quarterback. But then there's also a lifelong Jets fan, RB Saquon Barkley, who's considered the best overall player in the Draft, a once in a generation talent predicted to make an immediate impact.
