As the start of free agency is just a few hours away, the Jets have reportedly agreed to terms with a couple of more free agents. LB Avery Williamson of the Titans and C Spencer Long of the Redskins are both expected to sign with the Gang Green.
Williamson, 26, will sign a $22.5M 3-year deal, which includes $16M in guaranteed money. The Titans reportedly offered Williamson $12M for 4 years, so the Jets might be quite overpaying here. Williamson is a pure run stopper, similar to MLB Demario Davis, who will not be coming back to the Jets. Williamson is a former 5th round pick, who was the Titans’ leading tackler in 2015 and 2016.
Long, 27, was Washington's 3rd round pick in 2014. He started 12 games at center in 2016 and 6 games in 2017 before suffering a season ending injury. The Jets pass protection struggled last year, as the team allowed the 5th most sacks per pass attempt in the league. Long will replace C Wesley Johnson, who started 15 games for the Jets last season. He is an unrestricted free agent and isn’t expected to return.
