The New York Jets took the best player that fell to them at #6 overall, S Jamal Adams. He also happened to fill one of the Gang Green's biggest needs, as the team's secondary was one of their weakest units last season. Adams, 21, was ranked as a top 3 player in this year's draft by most pundits. He played 3 seasons for LSU where he never missed a game. He recorded 128 solo tackles (18 for loss) in 36 NCAA games, and also had 2.0 sacks, 5 INT and 14 passes defended.
Adams is a natural born leader. He plays run support like another linebacker but can also cover tight ends. He can play either safety position but the Jets most certainly project him as a free safety where he will be expected to start alongside another first round draft pick, S Calvin Pryor.
Adams is a son of former Giants 1st round pick George Adams who also played for the Patriots.
