The New York Jets released 12 players earlier today, as they began trimming down their roster before Tuesday's mandatory cutdown to 75 players. Right now the Gang Green has 78 players on their roster.
Today's casualties included five wide receivers: WR TJ Graham, WR/KR Saalim Hakim, WR Austin Hill, WR DeVier Posey and WR Jonathon Rumph. The release of Posey is definitely a surprise, as he was having a pretty good preseason.
The other cuts are CB Javier Arenas, OT James Brewer, CB Curtis Brown, C Dalton Freeman, LB Bryan Johnson, TE Matt LaCosse and CB Keith Lewis.
The Jets still have to release 3 more players before they play the Eagles in the final preseason game, which will be the final chance for fringe players to claim any remaining roster spots. Then, two days later the team will have to trim their roster down to 53 players.
